Bottle Shock 6/10 This is what happens you have a couple of fairly interesting stories and characters, but way too many of them in one film. Whose story was this? hard to say. Not to say I didn't enjoy it, but it's just too cluttered to deliver a good solid payoff. It seems I'm in Napa every other week these days, so I was keen on checking this out. Sideways was good, because there was one main character. This one had about 3, and I didn't really care about any of them. Rickman would have been better used elsewhere.
Beckett on Film (series) 10/10 I've seen half of these discs now. Beckett perhaps being my favorite individual in the history of everything, of course I'm going to dig this. Having said that, even I have to be in a particular, rare mood to force myself to sit down for a few hours and watch filthy octogenarian madmen babble on nonsensically, yet also tragically lucid and hilarious about the minor and grand facets of existence. The DVD transfer, though, is actually quite excellent for many of these (particularly disc 4: "Endgame" and "Play" featured. retardedly good PQ for a DVD.). Of course, I would not recommend this for the casual viewer.
Dead Man 9/10 Hadn't seen this in a few years. Still my favorite Jarmusch film. tits.
Let the Right One In 9/10 Been wanting to see this for a few months. Missed it as it was only in the theater here for ~1 week. Had no idea it was already out on video. I love Vampire movies. I particularly like smart vampire movies. I'm mostly a fan of the myth, or the concept of what a vampire is. I hate modern horror/slasher/ faux suspense movies, so I tend to put anything relating to any monster through a heavy filter. Anyway, this isn't so much a vampire movie as it is a film about a difficult relationship between two young outcasts. It isn't very suspenseful or terrifying either, so it departs from any other monster flick in that it is not made to terrify you. There are a few gruesome scenes that I felt were unnecessary, and seemed only present to pay the genre lip-service, assuming today's audience would need that to keep their asses in the seats. It's a shame, as it was clearly low budget and they relied on clever editing more than digital effects to convey certain actions that most other directors would have bastardized with some pointless imagery.
Anyway, it was still quite good. Loved the ending.
