Tron Legacy: 6/10

Well for starters the story line blew. BLEW. I'm not asking for a masterpiece here Disney, but give me SOMETHING that is remotely tolerable.

Jeff Bridges playing The Dude as Flynn. The whole hippy thing was lame. I didn't get it, nor enjoy it.

The 3D effects were... well... they were fine. Not what I'd expect and want from a 3D TRON. If ANY MOVIE should have been a 3D orgasm, I'd think TRON would be it. It was not. It was "fine" and nothing more.

Did I mention the storyline?

And really? So Clu was HELLBENT on creating a PERFECT utopia where nothing was wrong or out of place, yet his right-hand man was a bumbling idiot and he knew it?

Also, WTF was with the gay Martin Short dude? Lame.

Even above the soundtrack (awesome, but I get it, the guys in the helmets are Daft Punk... I don't need a quick cameo of them 5 times), the sound in the movie was incredible. When the tank things would come into screen, with that low-rumble... shook the whole damned place.

Also no sprites, and no actual use of the rolling tanks disappointed me.

I'll give the movie 6/10 I think. If you were to watch it at home? without the 3D Imax experience? 2/10 I'm guessing.

Finally saw this tonight, EXTREMELY disappointed. Also MANY scenes aren't even 3D so I see no reason to go see this in 3D at all. It adds zero to the movie. Storyline sucked and I thought the storyline was even worse than Avatar.

How is Olivia Wild in it? Got a serious crush on her.

Easy A - 8/10 Loved this movie! One of the better comedies I have watched in the last few months. My expectations were kinda high already because of the good ratings at IMDB which are rare for this type of movie. The dialogue is great and the acting matches it perfectly. There are good performances throughout but Emma Stone carries the movie. She is hilarious and so perfect for the roll. It gets high marks from me as well for various John Hughes movie references. Could easily watch this again.

I just watched it last night. I had ZERO interest in seeing it while it was in theaters because I don't really care for Cera and it didn't even seem that interesting in the trailers. But I figured I'm on the free 4 week trial with Blockbuster and the reviews were pretty good so why not.

It was really good! I completely did not expect such a kick ass movie! Watching it on blu-ray with my 58" Samsung C7000 plasma and new Denon 3311ci AVR was a great a/v treat :)

I found it boring. I liked the first 20 minutes, but it got painful after that. Not one I plan on revisiting.

The trailers really don't give you any idea what it is about. It looked like such a stupid movie but turned out to be really great.

I've seen it pop up on a lot of Top 10 of 2010 lists though, so I don't know, maybe I'm misssing something.

Suck 7/10
Campy vampire movie about a band that is struggling to make it. The hot chick bass player gets turned into a vamp which makes the band a lot more popular. It is a really stupid cheesy movie but if you are in the mood for that kind of thing it is a fun flick. Has a lot of music people in it like Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins, Moby, and Iggy Pop. Netflix streaming.

jeez, that's a bit extreme

http://blog.moviefone.com/2010/09/01/best-movies-of-2010/

heres a list of 50 just for reference, and there are easily 10 that are way better. even 13 on this list is pretty damn high. I know not everyone liked shutter island, but 44 vs pilgrim's 13? really?

Shutter Island was in my top 10 from last year. Lots of good movies on that list, but yeah, the ranking is pretty off on some of them. I guess if you to a top 50 you are going to end up grabbing most decent films from the year.

Defiance 8.5/10

An interesting film that I had forgotten in a box for almost a year, finally popped it in last night (BluRay) and sat it out. Wow, this is definitely Daniel Craig's finest performance, Liev Schrieber (sp?) was excellent as well. It's a true story of Belorussian jews surviving by moving from place to place in the forests, working together, fighting against each other, ambushing Nazis and vice versa, and just generally surviving one beating from fate after another. Thankfully there wasn't a lot of exposition on things so completely covered by previous holocaust films, though avid filmgoers will see many familiar stylizing cribbed from other Edward Zwick films as well as action style similar to BoB/SPR. The sound, the cinematography, and the location shooting and editing were all top-notch, beyond my expectations. There are some moments of almost painfully beautiful shots in the harsh forest winters, and some rare humor now and again.

Overall recommended for fans of WW2-era films, it's a good dose of drama with a good dose of action, though it does take about 15 minutes to get going and runs into several small periods of slow going.

The Sea Inside (Mar Adentro) - 4.5/10: Spanish film about a quadriplegic fighting for assisted suicide. Was excited for this one as it stars Javier Bardem, who I really like and actually was excellent here, and directed by the guy that did The Others and Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes, the original Vanilla Sky) but wow, this was like watching a soap opera. Overly melodramatic, with lots of very manipulative scenes to try and get you sad including terrible swelling music (the music and in-particular the way it was used, was freaking painfully bad). Extremely disappointed in this and only gets a 4.5 for Bardem because he was great, doing laps in this sea of saccharine and tears.

Rented the "Salt" Blu-Ray a couple of nights ago.

This one came with 3 separate versions of the movie:
Original theatrical release 7.5/10
Unrated director's cut 8/10
Unrated extended version 9/10

Much to my surprise, instead of just having scenes that had been cut to make the original, the director's cut and extended cuts both had alternate scenes and endings.
I actually watched all three.

I'm not a big Angelina Jolie fan, but she does a decent "action hero" type of movie. This one, like most, was fairly predictable in spots, and (fortunately) had car chases, stuff going BOOM!, and plenty of gun play. (no nudity though) :(

Unthinkable 7.5/10
American Muslim man has planted 3 nuclear weapons somewhere in the country. Samuel L Jackson is brought in to get the locations out of the dude. Its a do the ends justify the means? movie. One of the better movies I've watched on Netflix streaming in a while. Was a lower budget direct to video movie so don't expect big flashy effects.

Knight and Day - 8.0/10 - Two Cameron Diaz (and Celia Weston) films in a row for me! Anyways, the high rating shouldn't necessarily be interpreted as me saying its a 'good' movie, but rather that I just really enjoyed it. Cruise can completely pull off the too-cool action stuff and if you can just disregard the ridiculous nature of what is happening its a fun ride. Surprised it was not received better, but I guess some people may consider it rehash/formulaic.

A Boy And His Dog - 7/10: Been meaning to watch this one for years, but only got around to it last night. It's silly and pretty sloppy in parts, but I actually quite liked it. The premise of Don Johnson being able to communicate with his dog telepathically is great, particularly because I love dogs; I love how they never really spend any time going into the background of anything, you are essentially just thrown into this post-apocalyptic world, where women are sniffed out by dogs so guys can have their way with them, where renegade groups roam around the desert stealing cans of food from buriwn stashes, yet still find time to watch movies in a makeshift theatre, and where a secret society of people with painted faces lives underground. So yeah, I did end up with a lot of unanswered questions at the end of this, but I didn't care as it was a pretty fun ride to get there, plus it has an awesome ending.

Yeah I had way more fun than I expected I would. For a popcorn/date movie, I thought it was pretty darn good.

Excellent film!

In Bruges 8/10 I really enjoyed this movie.

I keep trying to track this one down on Blu-ray for a decent price, but I can never seem to find it. Really liked this when I saw it in the theatre.
