A Sound Of Thunder: 4/10

Proof once again that classic sci-fi tales COULD be made into proper movies, but probably wont. They deviated so far from the original story that it makes me wonder why they bother making such flicks at all. Which is weird cuz according to internet lore, the original director was fired cuz he wanted to take things in a new direction, but the producers (supposedly) wanted to stay true to Bradbury's original vision. Except they didnt. They fucked up story elements, they complicated simple things and added excess crap that didnt matter. They threw in a couple of extra hot chicks just for the hell of it.
Sad, all around. Even worse was that it had an awesome cast.

The Roost - 7/10: Ti West's (The House of the Devil) first feature about four young people stranded on the way to their friend's wedding. They encounter a barn full of evil bats that turn people into zombies and it's all presented under the guise of being in a a cheesy late-night horror television show. It's low-budget and the acting is pretty poor, but I really like West's style; he does a great job of building atmosphere and does not spend all of his time focusing on the gore. As a big horror fan, particularly stuff like this that does a lot with a little and does not take itself too seriously.

Love and Other Drugs - 6.5/10: Jake Gyllenhall is a drug salesman and Anne Hathaway as the girl with stage 1 Parkinson's that he falls for. Not a bad movie as far as romantic dramedies go and I think Hathaway was particularly good (looked pretty hot and was naked way more than I would have expected) but this does end up hitting pretty much every single note I expected, some of which actually dragged the movie down a bit for me (some silly comedic bits that felt a bit out of place to me, due to how they were executed). Decent date movie if you need one as the girl I saw it with liked quite a bit; laughing, crying, the whole nine yards.

Blade Runner (The Final Cut) - 9/10: I've never seen the Final Cut and it's been years since I last watched this movie in any form, so it was nice to sit down and watch this, particularly with the great Blu-ray transfer and absolutely amazing TrueHD sound; stunning. This film holds up really well, not unlike Ripley's other sci-fi masterpiece Alien though I still enjoy Alien more. Not much else to say as I really did not notice the differences in this cut since I barely remember the old cut, but from what I read they all seem to be good changes. Classic.

Apocalypto - 8/10: I've owned this for a long time, but only got around to watching it this morning. I liked it; essentially just an action/chase film in the jungle, with lots of blood and guts as Gibson loves to do. There were a few cheesy parts and some odd dialogue choices ("I'm Walking Here" when the giant tree falls down; really?) but it looked great and the action was done very well.

Full Metal Jacket 5/10

I guess I was expecting too much from this movie from hearing everyone say how awesome it is. Training camp I actually liked very much. I just didn't get the point of the second part, seemed like two different movies mashed together.

TRON - 7/10
Very entertaining movie.
Sure, it had its share of flaws, but solid action, great music, & actually pretty fun to see in 3D, even though i wish 3D wasn't being force-fed to us with so much these days.

Black Swan - 8/10
Brilliant acting, & downright scary & intense sometimes.

I'm a huge Natalie Portman fan, & was not disappointed obviously.
'Course Aronofsky's work ain't too shabby either :p

Really not a fan of ballet at all, so i'll admit that the content of the movie wasn't very interesting to me, but regardless, the movie itself was more than good enough for me to tolerate that.

Somewhere - 6/10
The very first opening scene really sets the tone for this movie.
A Ferrari being driving around, & around, a track, with a still camera not following him, just showing one section.

In short, boring, & nothing happening.

I was actually tempted to stop watching at this point since i swear that first scene was like 5 minutes, but i kept watching.

I kinda wanted to see what Sofia Coppola was doing with this movie as i loved Lost in Translation, but i think she got lost in this movie, & couldn't figure out wtf to do with it to make it less filled with fail.

Actually, the more i think about the more i realize i'm rating too high, but whatever.

The funny thing about the movie is that Elle Fanning is likely the best thing about it...who woulda thunk it.

Some stuff I watched with a $5 promotion for Amazon Video On Demand. The service was good, but it could have been better. I didn't see an option for movies in HD for PC viewing. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place... Regardless, DVD quality still looked good on my 42" 1080p tv and the films downloaded quickly (and you can start watching them as they are downloading). The Unbox program could use some work - you should be able to search and order movies from directly in the program instead of going through a web browser. Maybe have a WMC plug-in as well.

Toy Story 3 - 7/10. Cute film; not as good as the first two films, but still a good movie to watch.

Gattaca - 5/10. Interesting concept for a film based on genetic discrimination and some ethics behind genetic engineering, but it seemed to lack something in its execution. Not a boring film, but not particularly exciting either.

Pardon the wall of ratings; it's been forever since i posted in here.

Social Network - 7/10
Honestly, this deserves a 7.5 or 8, but i have to rate it a bit lower out of spite for the fact that is in NO WAY the best movie of last year, or even close.
I heard far too much hype about it being amazing, & blah, blah, & while it's a good movie, with a very good story, i just did not see how it was that amazing.

Jesse Eisenberg was good; definitely thought he did a good job with the role.

Wild Target - 7/10
Occasionally i like a feel-good funny movie, & this one really delivered.
Emily Blunt has the cute factor going, & Bill Nighy was fantastic for the role.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed - 7/10
Loved the minimal dialogue in this movie.
The story was told so well without it; really liked this all things considered, actually.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - 10/10
Honestly, i had no idea i would love this movie like i did.
I wasn't even interested in it, & friends kept telling me it was awesome.
I'd definitely say it not meant for all audiences...in fact, i'm pretty sure it's really only for a pretty select audience, but i was sucked in, & loved every bit of it, much to be my surprise.

Resident Evil: Afterlife - 5/10
What a pile of crap, & full of made-purely-for-3D gimmick scenes.

3D can be fun in some movies, but overall, it needs to fuck off & die, as it creates garbage like this, where entire portions of the movie are created just to showcase how "cool" it looks.

I'm actually a fan of the Resident Evil series; i've quite enjoyed them.
This movie was just sad though, terrible story, acting, just stupid in too many ways.
And then the obvious, z0mg there's gonna be a sequel ending because we keep sucking up your monies...

I guess i'm just bitter; i hate when a series i actually like the idea of turns into utter shit (i know, many would say it's been like that from the beginning).

Inception - 10/10
Does anything really need to be said?
Fantastic movie.
Absolutely brilliant.
And the score, wow, epic music ftw.

Wall Street 2 - 7/10
Meh.
Not a bad movie really, just not a good one.
Was worth watching once.

Machete - 8/10
"Machete don't text" :awe:
Oh god, this movie was so much fun.
I had no idea it would be such a riot, but that's basically what it is.
A wild insane crazy hilarious action movie that far exceeded my expections.

Enchanted 7.5/10 - There were some really good scenes and some not as good. Fortunately, there were a lot more of the good. It was pretty funny and there were a lot of references to other fairytale movies

True Grit 2010 5/10

Was just a slow movie where nothing really happened the entire flick. The final confrontation was so anticlimatic, and the very end of the movie I did not even understand why they put it in the movie, as it added absolutely nothing to the movie.

After all the hype of this movie I really expected a lot more out of this movie.

And Matt Damon seemed like a terrible casting decision. He looked like he was just in a halloween costume or something, did not play the part at all.

Toy Story 3 - 7/10. Cute film; not as good as the first two films, but still a good movie to watch.

I watched all three in a row and the third is easily the strongest. It's easy for nostalgia to taint your memory so you should consider re-watching.

Maybe. It was still a solid movie and I'd recommend watching it. If I want to rewatch the originals, I'd have to borrow a VCR from my parents - I believe they have 1 & 2 on VHS. Though, maybe the plot line was better in 3 compared with 2...

Apparently I am not the only one who thought A Sound Of Thunder was bad.
According to the people of IMDB:
"It if this had been on the Sci-Fi channel and had starred Bruce Campbell it might have been fun. "
"When confronted by the tenant board of your building you should poke a shotgun in their faces"

Also, in case anyone is wondering, much like I Am Legend, the title of the movie now makes no fucking sense because of all the ridiculous changes made to the story.

I liked it. Somewhat clichéd in parts and yeah, pretty slow overall with long pieces with minimal dialogue, but it looked fantastic and I liked many of the intimate scenes (there is a scene where Clooney is building a gun and ammunition that was just a beautiful piece of cinema). This film was very badly misrepresented in the advertising.

I'm gonna give it a shot. I'm not expecting an action movie and I don't mind slow as long as it's good. Definitely not one to watch with the gf though, I can tell she won't like it. Actually, she might have seen it? idk lol

The second half was great.
These are great days we're living, bros. We are jolly green giants, walking the Earth with guns. These people we wasted here today are the finest human beings we will ever know. After we rotate back to the world, we're gonna miss not having anyone around that's worth shooting.

Barry Lyndon - 8/10

This is one Kubrick film that I had missed. I enjoyed it.

Gah, they were playing this at the theatre right near my house yesterday, but I got roped into Love and Other Drugs instead. :( Guess I'll have to wait for the rental.

Just watched "Hot Tub Time Machine". I was prepared to be bored.
I was actually alright. I was pleasantly surprised. 6/10ish.

My thoughts exactly. I thought it was decent, nothing more.
