I'd recommend stopping Lost after season 2. Or season one and the first episode of season 2.

Never seen even 1 episode of Lost. However I've heard bits and pieces about what the show is about and how things changed through the seasons. Isn't this show an epic example of jumping the shark? Doesn't the show at some point just fall off a cliff in terms of where the plot goes?

I loved Lost. Gotta watch every episode though, it's the only way.

Am I right though that the plot really takes a sharp turn at some point? Doesn't it start off as guys stranded on an island (how do we survive and get odd etc) and later turn into some kind of government conspiracy end of the world type thing? I could be way off.

It started off with survivors of a plane crashed on an island that has some monster running around it killing people, and other people who've previously crashed, one of them broadcasting an SOS message for 15 years. With that as a starting point, it didn't really stray far for me.

There was always something quite strange going on. Watch it.

Well I have head that it's really addictive.

It is. It's a great character driven drama with great acting and plenty of cool sci-fi elements.

You journey with these characters to figure out what the hell is going on. Don't expect everything to be answered there is still plenty of mystery for you to create your own conclusions.

Phantasm - 2/10 - I have wanted to see this for years. And when it ended, I was like WTF did I just watch? After reading the plot summary at Wikipedia, the answer to that question is nothing.

I have sat though hall 6 Leprechaun movies with delight. And I'd also rate them about 2/10. And for some reason, I now find myself wanting to see all the Phantasm movies.

So, ya. 2/10 but I definitely can see how it is a sort of cult classic. There is something about it that makes me want to see the sequels.

Check out the 3 Phantasm sequels. Just uh....Just do it. :)

I'd also suggest watching these with a friend. Yeah they are out there....Watch em and read peoples thesis on these flicks. It's pretty interesting to say the least. :D

It doesn't fully jump until the final season.
It enovokes massive scientific questions and then ignores them all for the "omg it was god" explanation.

Solyaris - 9.5/10: The classic Tarkovskiy sci-fi film from 1972. I am a huge fan of the Soderbergh remake, but this film is even better. The pacing is better as it's longer and allows you to get even more enveloped in the attachment the main character has with the apparition the Solaris Ocean send to him. I also thought the woman who plays his wife was more effective than the woman in Soderbergh's film. I can see how people might get bored with this as it is quite long, but in my opinion it needs to be in order to properly flush out the characters and to get the impact of everything that happens. Amazing film and definitely a sci-fi classic.

The Salton Sea - 8/10: Could have sworn I watched this before, but apparently I had not. Stars Val Kilmer as a drug addict and police snitch, who gets embroiled in some rough dealings, but everything is not quite as it appears. I liked this quite a bit and the cast was spectacular; Kilmer, Vincent D'Onofrio, Luis Guzman, Peter Sarsgaard, Adam Goldberg, and Danny Trejo, among others. The story is a tad clunky in parts, but not enough to wreck the film. Good ride with good performances.

The Taste Of Others (Le goût des autres) - 5/10: A French film that is supposed to be a comedy about relationships, focusing on an older guy and his struggles with his wife and attempts to woo his English tutor, but it was not very funny at all. Maybe amusing in parts, but it was more a full relationship movie that was neither comedic nor all that dramatic. I think one of the problems is they went away from one of the funniest characters and relationships very early on. I didnt hate it, but it was not really all that great.

Last Year at Marienbad (L'année dernière à Marienbad) - 4/10: A French film from 1961 about two people who may, or may have not met at this hotel the year prior. This film kind of drove me nuts; I had no idea what was going on for a large part of it. There are lots of shots of characters frozen in place, with disembodied repetitive dialogue and narration; scenes are replayed over and over, sometimes with minor alterations, but not really adding anything. The film looked great, with many beautiful shots, which is why I rated it as high as I did. This felt like some sort of ambiguous dream sequence, or a mish-mash of incoherent thoughts that really never come together as any sort of interesting narrative. I actually did not mind the last 10 minutes or so, when things kind of come together and I had at least a bit of understanding as to what was happening throughout the film, but it was enough to redeem the film for me.

Fantastic Mr. Fox 9.5/10 - This movie is simply amazing. It's aimed towards a family audience, but it's accessible to everyone. Good story, great animation, plenty of humor, and it's backed up with a pretty well known cast. It rivals with Pixar's best.

The A-Team 4/10 - Pretty meh. I actually stopped watching half way only to resume later because I had nothing else to watch. I never watched the series, and this movie didn't even try to build the characters. The story is as generic as they come.

The Other Guys 7.5/10 - A surprisingly good comedy -- definitely one of Will Ferrell's better roles. Mark Wahlberg is the same as in his other movies: angry.

You mean not the one with George Clooney?

Tron Legacy 6/10

Predictable Disney flick just like the original. But at least the kid liked it.

I was surprised by it as well. I think i'd give it more of a 6.5, but it was better than I expected.

Hellraiser - 6.5/10 - it was pretty good. The story was unique to say the least. The acting was so-so. The special effects kinda sucked, but that can not be held against this movie given its budget. I have to say that I do love the reverse time lapse effects that we never see anymore though. CGI is ruining the experience to a degree. Anyways, a good scary horror movie that is another cult classic I gave a whirl. I already put the sequel into the Netflix queue. I should add that it was a total 180 from what I thought it was about. Pinheads role, while important, is nothing that I thought it was. He is a protagonist but not he main protagonist. And the main protagonist is not this constant-evil type persona I was expecting. The whole protagonist thing was well done.

Hellraiser 2 is an awesome follow up. The rest are do-do. Except maybe Hellraiser 5: Inferno.

The Man Who Fell To Earth - 6/10: 1976 film starring David Bowie as an alien from another planet that has come to Earth and is working on putting a plan into place by building a big company to fund it; he ends up in a relationship here and certain comes about because of all of this. This movie is kind of a mess; lots of sharp edits and unexplained sequences that seem to add nothing to the story and it jumps around between scenes making things somewhat incoherent at times. That said, I did find it pretty interesting in many parts and the overall story was decent, it was just the way it was put together that kind of screwed everything up. It's also a bit too long. Lots of naked ladies which was kind of nice, though that was offset by shots of Bowie's and Rip Torn's dongs...

The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo - 8/10
A journalist, Michael Blomquist, convicted with libel (framed) is hired by the wealthy patriarch of the Vanger Group to help solve a 40 year old disappearence and apparent homicide of his favorite niece, Harriet Vanger. Michael eventually enlists the help of a angry gothic computer hacker named Lisbeth. Once the investigation of the mystery starts the story really grips you as it slowly unveils the history of the Vanger family. There are some nice twists and kept me really engaged throughout. Looking forward to watch part 2 and 3 of this trilogy.
Oddly enough, the title of the movie refers to Lisbeth, but her story while briefly mixed in had almost no significance to the mystery at hand. I imagine it does have something to do with the entire trilogy though.

:awe:

lol I've always wanted to see this movie just because of Bowie. I'll still see it though even though I've heard it's not that good.

Doooo Eeeet!

It's like Evil Dead 2 / Army of Darkness (though not that good) -- stupid, but also awesome in a way. I first saw the first Phantasm as a kid and loved it. It might not hold up compared to more modern movies but still is a classic action horror film.

It's a mess, but not without some interesting elements. Very strange and even nonsensical in a few parts, but there were definitely some enjoyable moments as well. I found a lot of the naked sixties chicks to be pretty hot; less processed than a lot of the girls in film these days. :hmm:
