Can't wait to see this movie.
I KNEW this would be a huge role for Damon. A total "break-out" role if he needed one.

I was listening to a review yesterday and the girl said it was the best he's ever been. I will be seeing this on the upcoming long weekend for sure.

I have manlove on Jeff Bridges and Daniel Day-Lewis.

There is no shame for loving DDL. In fact if every man, woman and child DOESN'T love him and his acting... there's something wrong.

There are a certain set of actors and actresses which are just above all the rest. Your Hoffman's, Day-Lewis' and Streep's.... ANYTHING they do should automagically put them in contention for actor of the year, but due to the fact they are so prolifically awesome they are not eligible for the award.

True Grit - 9/10 - I think I could justify giving it a 10 I suppose but I guess no movie is perfect. The period dialogue and acting by Bridges, Damon and the Girl is inspired. This is not an action packed movie as some might think but there is enough action to satisfy. It's definitely a movie I did not want to end. I wanted more conversations between Cogburn and Labeouf as Cogburn's constant needling of the Texas Rangers was a source of amusement throughout. Very well done. Definitely one of the very few movies I will watch again.

Casablanca - 9/10

Can't believe I've never sat through this before. It was nothing like I expected - it was actually great! The dialog was top-notch!

Girl: Monsieur Rick, what kind of a man is Captain Renault?
Rick: Oh, he's just like any other man, only more so.

:)

Ah yes, that might be my favorite film of all time, as I find it eminently watchable. Yes the dialogue was absolutely stellar, so memorable. I also love the lighting, such lush use of shadows and light.

Hard Candy. 6/10?

I don't know. It was interesting but it overused some of the film techniques way too much. (Focusing bullshit) I'm not a film buff so when I notice, that's a problem. Throughout the movie I wondered about certain things (the video for instance...) and was wondering, "is this that kind of movie I think it is?" and then I was like, "fuck, it is. These never pan out to be good." And so it didn't really pan out to be good.

I really liked the guy because he felt very human. The girl was just eh. I didn't like her character or how she thought of justice/whatever-the-hell. So, it wasn't really my cup of tea. A lot of it was very iffy.
Guy could have just fucking blown her brains out. I would have either done that or shot her OR fuck, idk. Something to where I would be in the position of power.

Exit Through the Gift Shop - ??/10
Lol, well that was interesting. First off, my expectations were very high after reading everyone's comments about this, and the movie was nothing close to what I expected. For those reasons I came away a bit dissapointed. If I went in not knowing anything about it I'm sure I would have enjoyed it a lot more, but the entire time I was wondering about the legitimacy of it all.

I enjoyed the beginning, all of that seemed kosher. But once Thierry started to plan his show, things got a bit crazy IMO. Definitely seems like Banksy is behind it all, almost definitely. Again, if I watched it without knowing anything about it first, I would have liked it more. Even though it doesn't seem genuine, that is part of the message of the movie, so it works, I just wish I didn't have preconceived notions about it.

It makes you think about art, and how it is basically bullshit, which banksy seems to agree with. Maybe he's just in it for the money? who knows. idk, I know this review is all over the place, but that is where my mind is at after watching this thing

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - 4/10 - why do I keep watching Michael Cera movies? The guy plays the same character in EVERY movie. The only redeeming factor of this movie is the fight scenes. Everything else pretty much sucks ass.

Easy A - 8.5/10 - Very good teen movie. Emma Stone is great, and it's nice to see Amanda Bynes back from 'retirement'. It's been a while since I've seen a reasonably good teen movie.

The Bourne Supremacy & the Bourne Ultimatum

Even though the only relation they bear to their books is the name Jason Bourne, they still make good action flicks. Probably get a 7/10 - not the best, but they are very re-watchable and entertaining.

I've only seen the 1st Bourne flick and I really didn't like it.

The first is the only one worth bothering with. If you didn't like it, stay away from the others. They get progressively more annoying, if you can possibly imagine such a thing. The first one was fun, though. :\

Hint:
it's the Wolverine (X-Men) origin story. afaik, Ludlum wrote the original Bourne novels a few years before wolverine made his comic debut. Of course, the actual origin was never written until the early 90s. Pretty clear where the Marvel writers (was it Claremont?) "borrowed" that plotline. :D

;hmm:

so the actual plot/ Bourne backstory is completely novel to the film?

:hmm:

so maybe the screenwriter for Ultimatum stole from Marvel??
:hmm:

only 7 huh?
Bummer, I had very high hopes/aspirations for this movie. 7 only gets a rental from me. Not a theater visit :(

I'd give it a 9. I don't hate on Wahlberg like most do and thought he was pretty good. He should be for how hard he worked to get the movie made in the first place. The supporting cast (as mentioned earlier) really steals the movie though. Bale was simply outstanding as Dicky.

I really liked the documentary feel to the film as well...and the boxing footage looked vintage in the way they edited it and processed the film. The music was also spot on for the film...and the costuming was well done for the early 90s. I wasn't disappointed at all, and didn't feel cheated having seen it in the theater. This coming from someone who goes to the theater about once a year (although I love movies).

Robin Hood (with Russell Crowe) - not bad but not one I'd watch again. Seemed to vary a good bit from some of the other tellings of Robin Hood.

Zombie Strippers on Netflix Streaming featuring Jenna Jameson. I am embarrassed to admit to the fact that I made it through 51% of the movie before finally turning it off.

Saw 3 movies over the long weekend.

1. True Grit - 8.5/10 - very good Western movie, love the young girl character, especially when she tried to negotiate. Just did not like it when they spoke in old style English with drunken voice, hard to understand.

2. Black Swan - 6.5/10 - kinda weird psycho/horror wannabe movie, not bad but not great as others said. The lesbian make out scence was ok, but no nudie at all.

3. Tron 2D - 8.5/10 - love the visual/images and music score (9.5/10 just for that). Pretty decent movie but not sure why others trashed it.

I wish he acts in more films.. he makes an appearance on screen like every 2 or 3 years.. maybe he is choosy in his scripts. I fell in love with his role in, In the name of the father.

I don't think I've ever watched that much of a Jenna Jameson movie. Usually turn it off after a few minutes. ():)
