I have a feeling Imay have enjoyed this a little more if I had just seen it at home and/or in 2D. The stupid 3D wrecked it for me; the movie felt like it was 6 hours long when I saw it and it put me to sleep.

I saw it in 1080p 2d on a 50" plasma. The last 3d movie I saw was back when you wore the red and blue glasses in the 80s or early 90s and I have no desire at all to watch anything in 3d. It blew me away enough in 2d.

It felt a little too much like a soft core "furry" porno staring a female Jar Jar Binks.

I wasn't sure if I was supposed to save the rain-forest, go out and buy the Navi merchandise at my local McDonalds or jerk off to the disturbingly sexy Navi girl.

The Alien prequel due out in 2-3 years is gong to be 3D. The first true good use for 3D. So long as they don't pull any of the typical "look, this is 3D" crap.

James and the Giant Peach - another movie that my son loved. Free on Netflix. 10/10 for my son. I slept through most of it but from what I saw .... 6/10 for adults.

Men that Stare At Goats - 1/10 - What a horrible movie. Made it half way through it and quit. The movie had only 1 or 2 funny moments (in the first half) but the story was just horrendous. I had a hard time remembering that it was a comedy.

I was lucky to see a screening of the green hornet last night
green hornet: 9/10. I really like it, Jay Chou stole the show as Kato. Seth Rogen fits the perfect role of the clumsy green hornet. Love it.

The car is the shit.

There some funny one liner in there.

Cool Hand Luke - 8.5/10
It's a classic. Rather typical prison story but this was one that set the bar. The acting was really great. I Watched it in HD, it was very nice.

Raging Phoenix 2009 - 6/10
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1551621/
Plot ... blah, very over the top and mediocre.

Action ... good. Some of the scenes were longwinded, but, the martial arts were awesome to watch.

Same actress doing the stunts and martial arts as in the movie "Chocolate."

Overall, Chocolate is a MUCH better movie, but, this was worth watching IMO.

Chinatown 8/10. Pretty good movie. Probably a mustsee just for the references itself.

Videodrome - 8.5/10: Got my Criterion Blu on Friday, so I re-watched this on Sunday night. This is a Cronenberg film from 1983 about a guy (James Woods) running a sort of black market TV station that is trying to run the riskiest stuff he can find. He ends up becoming obsessed with a particular show and it starts to really mess with his head. After re-watching this I came to the realization I do not have enough Jimmy Woods in my life. Freaking love that guy. Great movie and it looked great; really looking forward to the commentary with Jimmy Woods and Debbie Harry; I have no doubt it will be filled with awesome.

The Underneath - 4/10: An early Soderbergh film starring Peter Gallagher as a down on his luck guy moving back to his home town who starts working for an armoured car company, gets into trouble with his gambling habit, and gets mixed up with a couple of different women. This movie was all over the place; it never really seemed to know what it wanted to be, a character piece, a thriller, or a relationship movie, and it's not composed well enough to be all of them. I like Soderbergh quite a bit, but this is probably the weakest film I have seen from him.

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever - 5.5/10: I'm a pretty big fan of the original film from Eli Roth, it does a lot of what I like from that campy style of horror film, so I was excited to see this one as Ti West was directing (he did House of the Devil which is freaking awesome). Unfortunately, after what I thought was a very strong, almost Night of the Creeps start to the movie, it falls into pieces about half way through then by the end those pieces merge into a piece of crap. A shame because I thought the first 20 minutes or so was awesome, but wow, what a disaster it became. Funny to see the guy from American Movie in a cameo though; that was cool.

FREE ON NETFLIX OPTIONS:

Exit Through the Gift Shop - (8/10) - It was an interesting documentary about street art. It actually is more about the evolution of one guy who went from clothing store owner slash filming OCD man to pseudo documentary maker to for profit street artist. I love it because in the end, it really shows how fake people are that spend alot of money on art. Even at the start of the movie, the person who is the focus of the film points out how stupid designer clothing is. He laughed that he could buy $50 in defect clothing and sell it as designer clothing for $5,000 (in L.A.). I think actual artists get it, but people that spend tens of thousands are just glorified post card collectors. Anyways, I found it VERY interesting and it actually gets better as the story goes on. Apparently some big names from the graffiti world are in it. The director is Banksy who is apparently among the top street artists in the world. It was funny. He was doing stuff as an artist many years ago before street art commanded high prices. Then some idiot paid half a million for a telephone booth that Banksy modified. Ya, remember those glorified post card collectors?

The other day someone was asking me what my favourite films of 2010 were so far and this was definitely in there. Whether it's completely real or not, I don't care, it was fascinating.

KT

finally saw this last night. I give it a 9-9.5/10.

IMO, this film is just exactly perfect. For the reasons mentioned, it provides a very honest, very biting, hilarious commentary on the art world, collectors, fashion, without having to say anything too directly. I love how completely honest the artists are regarding Theirry and their opinions of him, in the face of his own self-perception. It is simply classic.

What makes this perfect to me is that story arch you don't tend to get with this type of documentary, something that you simply don't expect--
the subject becoming the creator, the creator becoming the subject as he goes through the traditional character arch of nobody->passion->success-->failure-->"success?". It is simply amazing.

I don't give a shit about street art, honestly, but this had me enthralled. I mentioned that I was familiar with Banksy before, but I had no idea how truly talented he is, especially when compared to his contemporaries. This film
(particularly his ability to take it up as he did)
is a perfect example of that. My favorite part:
Theirry's cut of the (insane) "film," then Banksy's reaction: beat, and: "I realized that this guy isn't so much a filmmaker as he is a man with mental problems and a camera. :D

Everyone should see this. It won't change your life, but it is truly great filmmaking. Especially when you consider that it was a commando effort.

what a shame that he
refuses to direct/produce another film about street art
Hopefully the experience doesn't keep him out of film altogether.

the fuck? you can't create that other thread and then think that Chinatown, which is easily one of the greatest movies ever, is as good as it is.

:hmm:

oh, I suppose you were just trolling....

Black Swan - I may be the only person that didn't enjoy this movie.

It's a friggin ballet movie people. I don't care about the underlying story and how good the cast is, it's still a ballet movie.

haha, this is not a ballet movie. I've seen quite a few ballet movies in my time. Most of the reviews I've read pretty much say "If you are expecting ballet in this movie, you will be disappointed."

Also glad Zin liked it. Awesome movie.

Anyway, I think my favorite part was
when Thierry was getting ready for his show and prior to anyone showing up he was getting phone calls from art collectors. How much for item XXXX. And with almost no delay, Thierry says $35,000. If liquid from a beverage were in my mouth I would have spat it out because of my gut laugh. I think there was a second call that he took after that and he said $25,000.
Truly highlights how stupid some people are.

yeah, simply brilliant. I mean, I know this is basically how major studios have always worked--from DaVinci and Michelangelo, even, but when
the dude that actually made the tomato/spray can heard him list $25k, was he wondering "soooo, how the fuck much of that am I going to see?"

Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie

It's finally great to see the WH40k universe be licensed to a movie. The beginning was kinda weak, but once the real meat of the movie started, it was fantastic. I really hope it does well, because I'd love to see these guys make more 40K movies. It's such a rich universe with a huge fanbase already, and the potential for much more.

The happening - 2/10 - Absolutely terrible. Only redeeming part was watching everyone off themselves.

X -Men Origins: Wolverine - 7/10 Actually thought this was pretty good, gave a lot to the story and was right in line with the rest of the X-men movies.
