The Town. I sually like movies based around and about Boston and it's neighborhoods but this movie was fucking stupid...Yeah I know it was an Affleck vehicle but I thought it being about the Boston area would have made it at least interesting...it wasn't. It definitly was no Gone Baby Gone.

Wow that's surprising, I've seen almost zero negative reviews on it.

The Fighter - 7.5/10: Mark Wahlberg as Micky Ward, a guy who I've watched fight quite a few times actually, in this biopic from David O. Russell following Ward and his Brother Dicky (played amazingly by Christian Bale) as Micky tries to make a big comeback and Dicky clings to the past and struggles with crack addiction. I liked this film, but I was hoping to love it. The fight scenes were great as he switched up the film style and made it feel like you were really watching a real fight, but I felt as if there were a lot of heavy-handed, almost cheesy relationship stuff. It didn't all work for me, even though most of the acting was great; Wahlberg was good, but not great; actually he never seems to be great, just serviceable, though his boxing did look quite good. Bale was simply amazing here and I'd be shocked if he doesn't get nominated. So yeah, I liked the movie, particularly the fighting and Bale, but I was hoping for more from everything else.

The Toy - 6/10
Richard Pryor and Jackie Gleason. The kid in this was really good. But I didn't really like this movie. Wasn't that funny and the plot wasn't very good.

Lol at The Toy. I remember liking this as a kid, but I highly doubt it holds up. I do love Pryor though.

Got done watching Little Children. It was alright. (Spoiler) I had high hopes for the potential chomo, but he obviously was just fucked in the head I guess. I thought he was a good guy being framed as bad with just a one bad act, but nope... total potential chomo.

Anyway, movie was alright. DEFINITELY started out much better. First hour of this movie was pretty good or whatever, but it started really cranking out really slow and it just felt kinda boring at some parts.

Loved this freaking movie. Winslet and Wilson are both amazing!

Stardust - 10/10 I loved this movie from beginning to end. I can describe this movie in one word: charming. It's akin to The Princess Bride, so if you like one you'll probably like the other. I personally like Stardust more.

I agree, though I just feel uneasy giving most anything a 10. I'd give it a solid 8.5 or 9 though. Very very entertaining with big names throughout.

Got done watching The Social Network. Gotta say, the script felt very fake. Maybe all people from Ivy League institutions and those who work in an upper class environment are so very affluent with their words that these words are practically seen upon as scripture by the peons such as me, but the dialogue between characters just felt very fake.

Anyway, movie was OK. It felt very pompous and the characters were just swimming in their sea of self-importance.

Dead Girl - 6/10
After I was in search of a zombie film the other day I came across dead girl, it looked promising so I gave it a go, it was without a doubt the most disturbing film I've seen in some time, I'm including the scene in hard candy in this assertion. It was well written, intelligent, in places witty, and I see the point that the writers were getting across, but ultimately I felt like I suffered through it, I didn't want to look at the screen, but felt compelled to. I made it to the end, and my advice would be if you want to watch it, google a synopsis. Then change your mind.

I had an all post apocalypse viewing weekend. lol.

Book of Eli - 6.5-7/10
I liked the movie. I didn't expect a masterpiece going in, and it wasn't one, but it was surely entertaining. A little predictable at times, but not completely. Danzel was really good, I thought, but I usually like most of his movies anyway. It was more like an action hero style post apocalypse movie.

The Road - 8/10

Definitely nothing like Book of Eli. This was more like the realistic "what would I do" situations you would face after an apocalypse of some sort. If you don't like a movie with 95% drama and no real action, avoid this movie. I do like drama movies and character focused movies so it was pretty good in my opinion. I didn't like that the little kid was so whiny...growing up in a harsh reality like he does, you'd think he'd be a little tougher. Maybe an overprotective father was the problem, lol. Either way, the story and imagery were quite well done.

Stardust was a great movie. Deniro as the...errr....eccentric....pirate was awesome.

It was a fun movie. Not sure it's a 10. But it was very fun and didn't get much hype or the commercial success that it should have.

Ip Man (via Netflix Instant) - 9/10 - In the interest of full disclosure I have not finished this yet but I did not stop due to lack of interest. I am about 80% through it and I have seen enough to rate it this highly. It is a subtitled movie. Story of a Chinese man named "Ip Man" who is one of if not the best Kung Fu fighters in all of China. Really the official synopsis gives you all the info you need on the movie. The main actor is absolutely perfect as the humble master fighter. The fighting scenes will blow you away. There was one in particular that made me literally want to jump out of my chair and yell "holy shit!". Amazing amazing actiion and so perfectly choreographed. There are some "stunts" in the action but mostly it is strictly fighting and done so well that you think they are really fighting.

Avatar: Rating....see below

So over a year later I finally got a chance to sit down and watch Avatar in my home theatre. This movie is incredibly hard to rate. Yes, the story is very predictable, the characters very one dimensional and the political slants are obvious.

But I don't really care. It was an absolutely beautiful movie. The vision, style, and overall feel was incredible and other than some obvious shortcomings in CGI (those black dog/panther things) it is one of the most convincing CGI movies to date. The Na'vi animation was incredible and they felt like the rest of the actors in the movie.

I basically forgot about the story and just felt immersed in another world while watching this movie. This movie *has* to be watched on a big screen. And that is why it's hard to rank.

This is a visually driven movie. If you have the equipment to do it justice then it is incredibly rewarding. If you are watching this on a standard defition DVD and a small screen TV then you just lost 2/3 of the appeal IMHO.

I just can't give it an objective score because of that. I watched this with my wife and my Dad in my home theatre and we were all blown away with the beauty of the film. The nearly 3 hours that it lasted felt like half of that.

And that's the real grading of a movie like this. Did it get over quick and leave you wanting more? Or did it feel slow and like it was taking forever? This movie kept us captivated for 3 hours...less a few bathroom breaks. Thank you pause button.

3/10 on the good movie scale or 10/10 on the what the hell is this bad movie scale

I really don't even know what to say about this early 80s B movie. The movie was all over the place. Its a post apocalyptic movie but for some reason has everything from people with magical power claiming to be gods, werewolves, Frankenstein's monster in robot form, crazy villains with Nazi symbols, and all kinds of other crap that makes no sense at all thrown in. If you like bad movies you need to see this one.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Almost had a 'Lord of the Flies' vibe to it midway through. If 'Lord of the Flies' was mashed up with 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'Porky's'.

I felt the same way. I finally sat down to watch it a couple nights ago. The story was very weak and very predictable, as you said, but the visual candy more than made up for it. Beautiful imagery.

I have a feeling Imay have enjoyed this a little more if I had just seen it at home and/or in 2D. The stupid 3D wrecked it for me; the movie felt like it was 6 hours long when I saw it and it put me to sleep.

Black Swan - I may be the only person that didn't enjoy this movie.

It's a friggin ballet movie people. I don't care about the underlying story and how good the cast is, it's still a ballet movie.

Not really. You could replace the ballet with myriad other things and the movie would still work.
