I have a confession. I have never seen Jackie Brown. I am going to try and correct that today. Pulp Fiction is probably in my top 5 movies and I really like most of Quentin's stuff, but I haven't seen this one, yet.

Jackie Brown is my favorite QT movie.

Supernova - 1/10 - Eh.
Stranded - 6/10 - Mission to Mars anyone?
Pandorum - 5/10

Jackie Brown is pretty weak after watching True Romance, Reservoir Dogs, 4 Rooms, and Pulp Fiction.
But its before all the sucky movies like Kill Bill, Death Proof, and Hell Ride.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai - 8/10: Forest Whitaker is an assassin for hire, following the general ways of the Samurai, living a very solitary life on top of a building. This is actually a pretty slow film overall, but I quite liked it; there are some great action/assassin scenes, but also many quiet, reflective scenes with Whitaker (who is great in this) that really make the film for me. I think this is the first Jim Jarmusch film that I have seen, but now I'll have to check out some more of his work. Good stuff.

You must see:

Dead Man
Coffee and Cigarettes
Down by Law
Broken Flowers

I love JJ

Dead Man is fucking awesome.

how is Kill Bill sucky?

also, True Romance isn't exactly a "QT film." He's part of it, but it isn't one of his babies.

Jackie Brown isn't like the others, it's also an adaptation of Elmore Leonard, so it's not going to be a typical QT movie.

Don't get me wrong, I love all that other stuff (But I'm fucking sick of Reservoir Dogs. I've probably seen it ~30 times--seriously. it's now my least-favorite. lol)

Jackie Brown is apart from the regular Tarantino world. ...though you can now say that about Inglorious Basterds, too.

Actually that just proves my point.
In order for it to have a chance at being good he needs to write AND direct it. Case in point, only the Quentin Tarantino story of 4 Rooms is good. Actually, so is the Robert Rodriguez story.

OK, so thats the only guy in the whole fucking world who can take Tarantinos projects.

so now you're saying that True Romance is also shitty, b/c he is involved in neither aspect, technically.

At least he adapted (wrote the script) and directed Jackie Brown. By your argument, TR should be much worse than Jackie brown.

:hmm:

I love the Kill Bill films, they are awesome. I also love Jackie Brown and I like Death Proof, though it's not my favourite. It is, however, a pretty amazing Grindhouse film when it all boils down to it and has a really freaking badass car chase. :awe:

I picked up the Mystery Train Criterion Blu in the B&N sale, so I'll be watching that soon. I loved Coffee and Cigarettes, but I have not seen any of the others. I'll be hitting them soon though if the first two I've seen are any indication of his stuff.

Have you seen his episode of Fishing With John, it's hilarious (actually all of the episodes are awesome).

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein - 9/10: It's funny I like it.
Chick: I know there's no such person as Dracula. You know there's no such person as Dracula.

Wilbur: But does Dracula know it?

Not a fan of children-family movies.
Rather would have watched them with ex and her nephews, like most of the other movies like these.
I didn't choose to hit play on these, & could have gone without watching them

I generally agree. I have not seen any of the Toy Story movies, but Up was pretty meh.

I liked Up.

Wall-E *might* be my favorite flick of the previous 3-4 years?

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, though... :hmm:

I'm not generally into cartoons, either. But Pixar is freaking amazing.

Now Wall-E is one I really liked, particularly the first half, that was just awesome.

I'm not much for PIxar otherwise, except I liked Ratatouille too. I can take or leave most of them though.

yeah. Wall-E, Incredibles, Ratatouille are my favorites.

I still haven't watched any of the Toy Story movies--at least not all the way through. I keep telling myself that I'll go out to the theater when a new one comes along, but I never do. :\

Fright Night - 3/5

After 19,000 ratings on Netflix, not a whole lot of movies get rated above-average...

Soldier and Stargate were on TV at the same time last night. Didn't rewatch either, but I was reminded of how terrible an actor Kurt Russell is.

I missed a few things

Midnight Run - 7.5/10
De Niro as a bounty hunter goes to find a white collar criminal who stole from some mobsters. There are some laughs, and the story is pretty good for a movie like this. I liked it

The Return of the Pink Panther - 8/10
I've only seen short clips here and there of these movies in the past. This is a funny movie. Dumb in parts, but that's part of the charm. Of course, you have to like this kind of humor.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Final Sacrifice
I haven't finished watching this yet. This is my first MST3K movie I'm watching. It is basically funny commentary over stupid movies. It's actually pretty good. Not as good as the 4.8 netflix guessed, but I like it

Rashomon
I haven't finished this one either. Released in 1950. There is a rape and murder, but the people involved/witnesses are all telling different stories of the events. I can imagine this was pretty amazing when it first came out. The themes certainly hold up till today, not sure if I love it too much as a movie though. We'll see what happens when I get around to finishing it
