Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1: 7/10

Went with my 9yr old son last night to the midnight showing. It was very good. Top quality production and direction of course. It's amazing how these kids have grown into good actors along the way. Movie stayed very true to the book. Is pretty damn dark (especially in the opening scenes) I only really "downgraded" it as it kind of stinks NOT to have the "resolution" of the storyline at the end of the movie (though I'm glad it was split into two movies) There's some slight little things they added that I just didn't agree with. It was odd in parts too as you could tell the scene was filmed to take advantage of 3D, but as you may or may not know, at the last min they decided not to release in 3D (Though I fully expect a re-release in 3D in June just before Part II is released).

Added "bonus": They double sold my reserved seats. So they had the handicapped area open. My son got a normal seat, I sat in a lobby chair and got 2 free passes.

Added Added "bonus": Emma Watson was looking gooooooooooooood.

Added Added Added "bonus": Lots ofkids seem to like to dress up for this movie. Nothing wrong with a theater full of girls running around in school girl outfits.

Ok... /dirty-old-man

Well by "kids", the term is relative. Most were easily college age. Obviously no youngin's there.

I checked to see if a torrent was available for the History Channel documentary. I found one, but it's standard definition. I created an HD torrent from my TV recording. I didn't reencode it, so it's an original 8GB mpeg2 file. I'm trying to get it uploaded to my brother so there will be at least 2 seeds. This is the first torrent I've ever made. I don't think it's a big deal to share something that's already been publicly broadcast on TV...right? I hope I don't draw the attention of some Intellectual Property hounds.

you don't go through the trouble if it's only for me, I'm sure I'll find a copy eventually. I imagine it will be available soon, as it aired maybe a month or 2 ago? But if you have it up I guess I might as well grab it lol

Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project - 7/10
Not a great documentary, and it gets a bit boring at times, but he is so damn funny and it's nice to hear some stories from him and other people.

Cube - 8/10 an exciting thriller that exposes just how crazy humans can get in lord of the flies style circumstances except with death traps all over the place. I liked how mysterious it was at the end

Cube 2: Hypercube - 7/10 a decent sequel. I especially liked it because it had nothing to do with the original. It was a completely different movie and far more sci-fi than the original. The parallel universe stuff was interesting to me.

Cube Zero - 4/10 a poorly made straight to DVD movie that did a terrible job explaining the events leading up to the original movie. I liked the ending but as a whole the movie was a clunky poorly acted B movie.

I wish TV Land would bring CPO Sharkey to it.

Splice - 1/10

This movie was such a disappointment. I watched it yesterday on the way to and from work. When I got to work I had watched the first half and was excited to watch the rest of it on the way home from work. It started out pretty cool with a pretty neat premise.

Then on the way home from work I don't think I could have been more disappointed than I was. It turned into the worst piece of shit movie I've seen in recent years. I don't even want to talk about it anymore other than let people know it is one of the worst movies ever.

Oh man I thought it was pretty damned good. 9/10 for me.
I've seen Rickles live twice. Incredibly good. There will never be entertainers like him again. He's the last of a dead era :(

Lady Vengeance - 6/10
Not as visceral or over the top as the previous entries in the Vengeance trilogy. Still maintained the methodical pace of the others but since the payoff wasn't as thrilling, it didn't quite work for me. When they brought in the orphaned daughter into the story the scenes became very cringe-worthy as her english dialogue was very awkward and didn't really fit well into the whole plot. It was more artsy compared to the others but plotwise it was the weakest.

Mother - 7/10
A comedy/drama/mystery about a down on her luck mother trying to prove the innocence of her autistic son in a murder case. If you're not familiar with Korean culture, you won't really understand certain cultural mannerisms in certain comedic/pivotal moments throughout the movie. Other than that this was well paced and had a nice surprising climax. I could have given this a better score but I'm starting to get annoyed that the token autistic character is starting to be a trend in Korean cinema.

Talk about a zoophile's wet dream. Also since that girl used her own DNA didn't she kind of screw her self, incest type shit?

The movie was decent up too those parts. Then it just got D:

Not really sure I would go out and call it a comedy drama, rather it seems to have the dark, odd sense of humour found in many Korean films.

I absolutely love this film and was pushing it a lot a year ago (probably spammed this thread a couple of times :D); I've watched it 3 or 4 times now and I think it's really quite special. I like it even more than Memories of Murder and far more than The Host, which are two of Bong's other heavily lauded films.

Deathly Hollows: 6/10

It felt like there was a crapton of filler. I wanted to hang myself after the 15th "helicopter flyover of a landscape" scene. The story was good, but it was obvious that they assumed you had the read the books (which i havent.)

The acting and special effects were good; and it was entertaining enough to be worth seeing... but i certainly didn't like the length with all the filler or the lack of story structure.

lol, I hated it too, but felt the opposite about first half/last half. I turned to my friend halfway through and asked if it was starting to annoy him too.

L'Enfant (The Child) - 8.5/10: The Dardenne Brothers' Palme D'Or winner from 2005 about a young couple with a new baby; the petty criminal father ends up selling the child and has to deal with the various consequences surrounding this. It's a relatively minimal film, but that helps make it feel very real and it drew me right in. The relationship between the couple is very cute to begin with and as things go awry you really start to feel for everyone involved and it also has a pretty nice little chase scene in the middle. I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Martin - 3.5/10: George A Romero's 1977 film about a young man who believes he is a vampire and ends up staying with his cousin who attempts to sure him of his evil ways! I really did not like this much at all; the acting and dialogue were cheesy and the horror/serial killer elements just came across as silly. I like the concept here and think it could be a very interesting, compelling story, but the way this was done did not work for me at all. Pretty boring actually.

I haven't seen Memories of Murder but The Host was pretty bad imo. I think maybe Bong is still tweaking his technique.

And odd sense of humor? Racist! ;)
Korean humor in general boils down to either slapstick violence or a multi-layered play on words.

Not sure what I would call it in these films, but I gather you would know better than I would. Whatever it's called, I love it. :awe:

See Memories of Murder, it's pretty awesome, but I think Madeo takes it to another level.

I see a few people like documentary films.

I found This Film Is Not Yet Rated on netflix streaming but haven't got around to watching it yet. I was wondering if anyone had seen it and what you thought of it.

I've look through and watched a good amount of documentaries on netflix streaming recently, but I don't think I've noticed that one. Seems interesting, I'll check it out.

It's good. Covers the issues of free speech via the ratings boards and whatnot. It has some good talking heads in it, without becoming a complete talking head documentary like some do. It's a little flat in parts, but overall a good watch particularly if you any sort of interest in the subject matter as I do.

Its a very good documentary. Of course, I already knew the ratings board was full of shit, but watching something with a few more stories really drives the point home.
