Brooklyn's Finest: 6/10

A lot of names (Ethan Hawke, Don Chealde, Richard Gere, Snipes, ect) but you never really seem to care about them. Especially Hawkes character. Of the three Gere's is the most interesting and probably has the best wrap up, but the other two just seem like 2.5 hours of dragging along for the ending. The director hit pretty well with Training Day...but that was more Denzel (King Kong ain't got shit on me!) Washington carrying things. But this is just another mostly forgettable movie.

It wasn't bad. It just wasn't that good. Probably wouldn't watch again, and not one I'd really go out of my way to recommend.

Chugyeogja (The Chaser) - 9/10
"Joong-ho is a dirty detective turned pimp in financial trouble as several of his girls have recently disappeared without clearing their debts. While trying to track them down, he finds a clue"

What a fucking gem. Netflix knew I was going to love this movie, and did I ever.

Intense and thrilling, all the way through. Korean movie, I'll add to this review tomorrow

Yeah, have this one on my list, but it's low availability, so it could be a while before I get it. Glad to hear it's good.

Hereafter: 10/10

Pretty much perfect. Acting is... frankly I'm surprised the actors are acting in the first place it's so real. It's kinda weird in the sense that there's no real beginning, middle, and end, just one long middle. Normally a movie made like this would suck but it flows so nicely and given the incredible acting it manages to suck you in. It also addressed it's subject matter (life after death, or not?) in a rational way, not taking it to any mystical or religious extremes. In fact it unapologetically portrays more than a few of these extremes as crackpots, which I liked.

All in all, Clint Eastwood just put another movie in my top 10. I'd even be tempted to say top 5. Easily his best work as a director IMO, even over Million Dollar Baby.

Huh, surprising. I've not heard a tonne of praise for this. People have not been hating on it, but they have not been loving it either. I guess I'll have to check it out.

I liked this. I thought it was pretty decent for what it was and I was never bored. I enjoyed all of the intertwining storylines.

Awesomely awesome movie! One of my all time favorites, right up there with Ran, Ikiru, and Red Beard in terms of it's awesomeness!

My Criterion Blu is on its way to my house. :awe: Super excited to see it again as it's been a couple of years i think. :hmm:

Happiness - 7/10: A very awkward, uncomfortable comedy/drama revolving around the lives and more accurately the sex lives of three sisters. There is rape, paedophilia, dirty phone calls, and lots of masturbation and while it is uncomfortable to watch in parts, at the same time I found seeing all of the different characters' sexual psychoses kind of fascinating. Dylan Baker was amazing as the extremely confused Father of a confused son and really everyone else was very good as well (lots of familiar faces in this one). Can's say it's a movie I will be watching again anytime soon, but it was certainly an interesting film.

So I watched the newer Dawn of the Dead (the Zack Snyder remake)... did they purposely make the film grainy so give it that "older" look?

The Fly - 4/10
Campy over the top monster/horror kind of film. Not my style. Jeff Goldblum builds a teleporter and reporter Geena Davis finds out about it and they start a relationship. But then something goes wrong.

The beginning started out normal, but boring. It morphed slowly, and then quickly, into craziness. Not my kind of movie, I couldn't wait for it to be over. Not sure how I made it to the end.

The Sweet Hereafter - 3/10
The Fly had a low 90's score on rotten tomatoes. Fine, maybe for that genre of movie it was good. But this, 100% with 50+ reviews! W-T-F. I thought this was pretty bad. The movie was all over the place, I didn't think any of the acting was very good, and I didn't feel bad for any of the characters. I watched it because my gf wanted to see it. She didn't like it either, but maybe not quite as much as I disliked it. I assume the book is much better, but there was no character development, the movie just started and we're supposed to feel bad for these people who can't act and have some garbage dialogue? I really don't understand the appeal of this movie at all, I think it is straight garbage.

Another You - 5/10
I believe this was the last of the Richard Pryor/Gene Wilder movies. Clearly the "worst" of them. I love Stir Crazy and Silver Streak, and even See No Evil, Hear No Evil is a ways ahead of this one. The plot is ridiculous and the characters aren't as fun as the other movies. It's not a very good movie, and only a few good laughs here and there, but watching these two guys together counts for something.

I must have watched about 10 episodes of the office yesterday/night. Was catching up on the episodes I've missed here and there, since I've never watched the show as it aired. TBS must never show season 3 episodes because I don't think I saw any of those. It's consistently funny, but not quite on the same level as the best comedies IMO

Winter's Bone

Oh man, I thought this film was pretty great. The sense of desperation as she searches everywhere for her Father yet only seems to encounter obstacles and very scary people set against this bleak landscape, which is captured very well by the camera. I felt the desperation and admired the toughness of the girl as she remained her families only hope in this desperate situation.

To each his own though.

The characters and mood were quite good, but the story itself wasn't. I kept checking to see how much time was left wondering when the Shamalamading-dong twist was going to happen... and it never did.

This is why women "fake it", the mechanics are there but no satisfaction in the end.

Unstoppable- 7.5/10

I went into the theater expecting a cliche ridden, popcorn flick.. but I was pleasantly surprised. Rosario Dawson was the show-stealer in that movie and Denzel Washington and Chirs Pine were good. It was a non stop thrill ride and I greatly enjoyed the movie.

Survival Of The Dead - 2009
3/10
What the HELL was Romero thinking?
Stupidified Red Vs Blue with outsiders coming in and making a big mess....
The whole "see if the zombies will eat something besides human flesh" idea made sense, and some of the character development was good, but, overall, this is weaksauce compared to all other Romero Movies.

Wake Up Ron Burgandy: The Lost movie 2004
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0423505/
3.5/10

This is a collection of dropped subplots and takes from Anchorman strung together into a movie...
I love the movie Anchorman, I think it is completely hilarious. This has a few scenes that are very funny, but the vast majority, well, I'm glad that they were cut!

So, for the few funny scenes, it gets a 3.5, but it was really bad.

How To Train Your Dragon: 8/10

Just another absolutely enjoyable film for nearly all ages. My three year old didn't enjoy it as much as Kung Fu Panda because it wasn't as slap sticky or physical humor. But there was a lot of stuff that kept me laughing pretty good. I really was in stitches with the DD statistics spewing dork that was voiced by McLovin during the dragon school. :)

The movie was beautiful in presentation and the dragons almost seemed more alive and full of life than the humans in the movie. It was much more of a heartfelt movie than a funny/slapstick style so it's replay value isn't as high as some of the others. Kung Fu Panda is probably my favorite from Dreamworks because it's such a fun movie. But How to Train Your Dragon is probably the best from the studio. It's just a complete package of style, substance, and enjoyment.

The Burning Plain: 6/10 - a bit confusing until you realize what's past and what's present... ending was abrupt - expected a lot more to the plot actually. Bonus points for a few naked Charlize Theron scenes.

The Descent 2: 7/10 - loved the first one. This really is just more of the same. And because of that, it has to rate lower. Also expected more, at least a good twist or something.

just got back from watching Skyline

6/10 stars for me

That good? Reviews are saying it is horrible and hat he special effects are nothing ground brreaking either as the commercials would make you think. So, why the 6/10?

As a note, Rotten Tomatoes ahs this at 10% last I looked.

My entry for the day:
Everything Is Illuminated - 6.5/10. I was a bit tired but it was good overall. I thought the second half dragged out a bit. The best part though was the role played by Eugene Hütz (of the band Gogol Bordello). Eugene Hütz was more important to the movie than Elijah Wood as far as I am concerned. Hütz made the movie wathcable with his unique sense of humor. From what I can tell from live Gogol Bordello, Hütz isn't mutch different in real life than the character he played in this movie so I'm not really sure that it showed him off as an actor.

Social Networking 8/10

Pretty good movie, made me think quite a bit. They painted Mark Z to be a sort of bad guy in the movie. They could have went deeper with a few things in the plot, I went on wikipedia to read up on some things I had questions about.

Toy Story 3 - 9/10

Pixar delivers another gem. Great characters and clever parallels to other dramatic scenes in other non-family oriented movies. The holding cell and incinerator scenes come to mind.
Andy's sendoff of his toys to bonnie was great tribute to the whole cast.
A very solid add to my blu-ray collection :D

Why does everyone always care about what other people think about a movie? I never read reviews cause i dont give a crap what some critic thinks. I never go to Rotten Tomatoes for that same reason. If the trailer looks interesting ill see it. No need to find out what other people thought. I usually disagree with critics anyways on movies.

Sherlock Holmes - 7/10

This movie was marketed as a pure popcorn flick and delivered in that regard. But when looking back the cool explosions, cgi, and over-stylized action scenes felt out of place from the overall plot. There was a lot more thought put into the plot device, and I would've paid a bit more attention to the mumblings of downey jr's holmes character if I knew there would be an actual mystery that needed solving. The ending also felt a little scooby-doo-ish sans the hippie and talking dog. Rachel McAdams was hot. Flawed but fun ride.

The Evil Dead - 5/10
The makeup effects were incredible. The rest of the movie? Not so much.

Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance - 8/10
For the amount of carnage that happens in this movie, it was a very quiet movie. The minimal dialogue and the lack of a soundtrack actually helped build on its originality and uniqueness. The buildup to the climax was slow and methodicalm, but when it did, it came down in a firestorm. The deaths and revenge methods that were carried out were not the typical over-glamorization you usually see in a hollywood production movie. They were cold, painful, ugly, and gave off a stong sense of patheticness that it truly is in reality.

Why does everyone always care about what other people think about a movie?
Because many people spend alot of time rasing children and working. And when that does not tire them out, they will occasionally go see a movie. So when they do see a movie, reviews are helpful in choosing a movie that does not suck.

At which time I must invert. Why are you even in this thread:
1) if you don't care to read about what people think about various movies?
2) if others reading your thoughts on various movies is a waste of their own time?

I never read reviews cause i dont give a crap what some critic thinks. I never go to Rotten Tomatoes for that same reason.
Why did you read my post whcih was clearly about two movies and not off topic if you knew that you risked reading about hte thoughts of another human bieng?

If the trailer looks interesting ill see it. No need to find out what other people thought.
I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. How about $500? Paypal work for you?

I usually disagree with critics anyways on movies.
Those opinions that you just said are ... what was it? Oh yes. THIS:
I never read reviews cause i dont give a crap what some critic thinks.
