The Social Network 8/10

Good movie. Obviously it's movie so you can't take everything seriously but it was very well done. The kid who played Zuckerberg was only ok. Don't understand why everyone was saying he did so well in it but it was a very well done and entertaining movie. All the drama behind everything is what sucks you in.
The kid who played Zuckerberg was just ok probably because Zuckerberg's personality in real life is... well... just ok.

Watching The House of the Devil and The Shining. If we have time, I may try to watch Texas Chainsaw again since I can never get enough of that. Maybe The Descent since the friend I will be with has never seen it. :hmm:

damn, I didn't really like The Host at all. I wish I thought of The Shining, I've never seen it

Yeah, The Host is ok, but it's the least favourite of all of Bong Joon-Ho's films. Mother and Memories of Murder are so much better. Can't believe you have not seen The Shining! It's so awesome.

Paranormal Activity 1 - This will include spoilers btw. Finally watched this tonight. Watched it home, alone, with all the lights off. I wanted to be scared. I had been wanting to see this for quite some time now; finally got around to it.

I thought it was quite scary. I'm not sure if it was all the hype and anticipation that had built it up for me, or how I watched it (alone, etc.), but it definitely had me on edge. One of the things I didn't like about the movie, is to the extreme degree "Micah" was portrayed as being a skeptic. Sure, not everybody is going to be convinced there's something going on with one little event occurring, but with an invisible creature making 3-toed footprints into baby powder... along with all the other events? I dunno... it was just unbelievable just how much convincing he needed. Also, I was really nervous/scared in anticipation of the ending, which I heard was soooo scary... I didn't really find it all that scary. Certainly wasn't as scary as I had been bracing myself for.

Overall I really enjoyed it though. I'd say 7/10

Not yet, apparently =) I actually don't know how to apply them.

1. Turn on your advanced editor.

2. Highlight the text you want to enclose in spoiler tags.

3. Click the 'SP' button on the editor.

A Clockwork Orange - 7/10
An incredibly nutty half porno film about psychological conditioning. At first glance it seems like movie riding on pure shock value but it really goes into some deep character analysis and the ethicality on the value of personal freedom vs brain conditioning of negative traits. Of course I'm not expecting any cheap copouts in any of Kubrick's films.
I was kinda distracted by all the British accents and wacky costumes, though.

La Femme Nikita - 7/10
Typical 80's action flick, just French. 80's new wave electronic soundtrack? check. Girls with man-hairdos? check. Nonsensical plot? check. There was a bit more character development so I'll rate this a bit more above average than the standard fare. The ending was kinda abrupt so I felt a little short changed in the closing credits. I think this movie needed some more explosions.

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest - 6.5/10: The final film in the Millenium trilogy and I think this is the weakest one. The biggest problem I had with the second film was the fact Blomkvist and Lisbeth were barely on screen together (one of the greatest strengths of the first film was their relationship) and that problem is just amplified in this film. Lisbeth is either in the hospital or court while Blomkvist runs around town trying to uncover things, but the moving parts are even less interesting in this film to make up for the shortcomings. It's not bad or even boring, but it was pretty ho-hum compared to the second film and is nowhere even close to as good as the first. Overall a decent trilogy, I just wish there would have been more time spent with the two of the charcter together, rather than having them running around doing their own thing.

Bigger Than Life - 7.5/10: A 1956 film about a teacher/husband/father who has a vascular issue and is prescribed a "miracle drug" (cortisone) which he becomes addicted to and ends up in a steady decline into psychosis which rips apart his family. I liked this film and was actually kind of surprised at the subject matter for the 50's. James Mason is amazing as Ed Avery and his performance is what drives the entire film. Seeing him struggle with the addiction and paranoia resulting from that is extremely interesting and it's done very well. The very ending of the film is horrible though, really, really brutal, so I knocked it off 0.5 for that; everything else is great.

Heh, surprised you didn't comment on all the weird terminology that they used :p. I enjoyed the soundtrack in the film.

It's also kind of amusing when you see the main character (Malcolm McDowell) in roles today. He's a bit older now, so he's a little harder to spot, but he played Linderman on Heroes.

Yea I did notice a lot of weird terminology being thrown around. I just thought it was just a British thing :p
Ultra-violence, doing the in-and-out just to name a couple. There was an uncomfortable amount of crotch punching in this movie too.

Its surprising how broad the acting is for McDowell. If I look at him now, I just see a typical villianous character in any role he plays.

He has become a bit of a caricature now, but he's so awesome in Clockwork. Need to re-watch that; it's been a few years since I last saw the film, which is odd because it is a favourite of mine.

Where the Wild Things Are - 3.3 / 10 - Huge disappointment for me. Neither the main character nor his figments were likable. The real life framing storyline was underdeveloped overall, and underrepresented in the imaginary land. I haven't done any additional internet research on the plot. Surely the wild things are supposed to symbolize the boys real world struggles but the connections were vague, at best, for me. Perhaps it was deeper or more subtle, but really it felt haphazard. The end was quite unsatisfying as well. It gets a couple points for visuals & the score, though hardly redeeming.

Paranormal Activity 2 - 9.1 / 10 - Really liked the first one, and although it really is the same overall formula, this one is better in basically every way. Better acting/more believable characters. Better sets/scenes.
They did a really good job tying the sequel to the first, AND actually improved the first after the fact by revealing the 'why' of both plots - neither intricate nor mind-blowing, but functional. Addition of the dog and baby added another dimension of creepy that you can't achieve with adults.

If you liked the first, you will like this one. If you didn't, you won't like this one either.

The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters: 9.5/10
For what it was, you can't get much better, hence the rating. Man, what a ride this movie was. Up and down emotionally, it's a MUST watch IMO. Real big spoiler so beware
I was on such a high when this movie ended, so happy Steve came out on top of billy douche. And then I searched AT to check out discussions about it and saw that billy won the record back. Damn...ahh edit. according to wikipedia steve took the record again last month! woooo

http://www.twingalaxies.com/ maintains the records.

Star Trek (TV show, season 1, episodes 1,2) - 10/10 - Not a movie, but regardless. I have always wanted to watch all the Star Trek stuff chronologically and I have started. I have to say that the original TV series holds it's weight even today. It really shows whata good story can do for a TV show, even with cheesy special effects. My first big thought to the show was that I could not beleive how bad it makes anything on TV these days look in terms of writing. Everything on TV today is mind numbing crap. Star Trek made me happy because it is not so mind numbing and cookie cutter in nature. I now have an appreciation for Trekies.

Ip Man - 9/10 - Just watched this on Netflix streaming. I'm not a big fan of Kung Fu movies because so many are done so poorly. This movie may turn out to be my favorite Kung Fu flick of all time though. Paper thin story and character development, exactly what you'd expect from such a movie, though the acting is actually a step up from the standard choppy-socky fare. The action and fight scenes were amazing though. Maybe "brutally beautiful" would be the best phrase to decribe them.

Can't wait to watch it again.

My mom really wants me to take her to see this one. She loved the books and enjoys the movies but I've never seen the movies but I might bite the bullet cus she really wants to see this to finish off the movies.

netflix streaming tries to shove this movie down my throat lol. this any a ton of other asian films, most from the 50's and 60's. I'm not really sure why they are being suggested.
