Piranha 3D - 8.5/10: By far the most fun I have had at the theatre this Summer. Not the best film I've seen of course, by a long shot, but this does what it's supposed to do and hits every note perfectly. Tonnes of gratuitous nudity, absurd and gruesome deaths, and over the top characters (some awesome cameos too). The only thing I really disliked was the 3D, I'd rather have just seen it in 2D, but that was not on offer at the theatre unfortunately. Anyway, just a tonne of fun and I think it's better than the original film and miles better than Cameron's Piranha 2.
Taxi To The Dark Side - 7.5/10: A pretty interesting documentary on torture and, more so, policy setting after the events of September 11, 2001. I was a bit bored in the beginning as I had seen much of the material presented in other documentaries, but once it got past the first part about Abu Ghraib it became extremely interesting and I was fascinated and disgusted by some of the goings on presented here. The worst part is how the low level soldiers are completely hung out to dry by the higher-ups, essentially ruining their lives.
A Perfect Getaway - 6/10: I actually really liked the first half of this film; I'm a huge fan of Milla, Steve Zahn, and Timothy Olyphant and the initial setup is a lot of fun, however it takes a turn a good chunk later in the film that really bothered me and did not even make all that much sense, plus it's extremely clunky in its reveal. I could easily re-watch the first half of this film (it also looks pretty damn nice with all those shots of Hawaii) but I'd have to turn it off before things go to shit. Olyphant is so awesome, just a likable, fun guy to watch on screen.
Brothers - 6/10: This film left me feeling a little flat and I'm not even sure why. I like most of the people in it, though I do find it kind of odd that all of the people in this small circle are so amazingly good looking (Portman and Carrie Mulligan are both stunning), and the acting was decent, but I never really cared all that much about what was happening. I have to imagine that has something to do with the writing, but I don't know. I wasn't bored and I didn't hate it, but I also just sort of shrugged my shoulders when it was all over.
