An Education - 7.5/10 - Well acted. Engaging, though predictable. It took me a while to accept her parents' decisions and rationale, I guess those were just different times. Hard to understand how that could have ever happened, based on our current culture and parenting styles.

Law Abiding Citizen - 7.0/10 - Much more gruesome than I would have expected.
Butler was a pretty hardcore villian after all, though I thought the jump from loving father to serial killer was really weak, as was the explanation for all his technology & expertise
. Decent suspense and drama.

Dinner for Schmucks - 7/10 - This is one of those movies that most people will laugh the whole time watching, then at the end say it sucked, or was dumb. It was well done, even if a bit mindless. Steve Carell was the right guy to cast.

Hot Tube Time Machine - 6/10 Decent, not over the top funny or anything.

Kick - Ass - 7/10 Not as good as I was hoping, but worth a dollar from redbox.

Expendables - 7/10. Typical 80's and early 90s thinly plot action movie without all the "wi-fu" stuffs. The cameo roles and dialogs in the church was fun to watch. Austin vs. Contour fight was good to watch.

Despictable Me - 7.5/10. Typical feel good toon (bad guy became good guy when some cute kids warmed his heart). The Victor/Vector guy remind me as a younging Bill Gate somehow.

The Other Guys - 6/10. I don't know why people thought this movie was all that. It was not bad but not that great. Walberg looked like he got something stuck in his butt all the time. LOL @ the nerdy guy (Ferrell) had all the luck with all the hot chicks.

Inception 9/10: I need to see this again. At a few key points in the movie I found my mind wandering and I missed some of the “glue” that tied it all together. Even with my admitted confusion, I was still fascinated.

Tyson 10/10: About as good of a sports documentary – or any documentary – as I’ve ever seen. I was pretty surprised about how candid Tyson was in his recollection of events – painful events; he’s an incredible portrait in contradictions. If Cus had lived, just imagine how great Tyson could have been…

Taken 7/10: Totally ridiculous movie about a CIA agent (Liam Neeson) whose daughter is kidnapped while vacationing in Europe. If not for Neeson as the protagonist here I’d have this movie at about a 4. Dude is a perfect cast and he had me laughing out loud in most of the fight scenes…so cool and calm; kicking the asses of a half dozen guys in the span of about 12 seconds doesn’t seem too much of a stretch, because he’s JUST THAT BAD.

Peaceful Warrior 6/10: Imagine Karate Kid but for gymnastics, with a white Mr. Miyagi (Nick Nolte) and a way-too-skinny-to-be-a-gymnast Daniel-san (Scott Mechlowicz). Based on a true story. Nick Nolte carries this film, and if not for his work here it probably gets a 2 or 3 from me due to cliché and corniness overload.

Yeah I hear nothing but good things about this series but no you are not the only person not to have seen it, I've yet to. Got to put it on the list.

Yeah, you should check it out. I was concerned because I had extremely high expectations, but they have been met so far.

You might consider checking out Treme, also created by David Simon. It aired this year, and it's about New Orleans in the wake of Katrina. I just finished it and it's pretty good, if not on the same level as The Wire. It shares a few of the same actors, but no Mcnulty or Omar. :(

I remember hearing a lot about it before it came out, but since it was actually airing I have not heard a lot. I trust your taste though, so I'll have to check it out.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Omar really is a great character. When Obama admits the wire is his favorite show and Omar his favorite character, that says something lol.

As you get further into the show you get even more connected to all the characters, and there are so many GREAT ones.

Hoping to start season 2 tomorrow if I have the time. Very much looking forward to it.

I fired up Firefly (found the series on Blu-ray for cheap) this morning but it's been kind of...not so good so far. We'll see. :hmm:

Was Obama like some famous and highly respected film/TV critic before he became president?

Paranormal Activity - 5/10

Since I knew it was fiction, I was hardly scared. I didn't watch it in a dark theatre with other edge-of-your-seat-about-to-scream-people though. I thought a few parts were pretty good... like the lights on and off as it came up the stairs, it pulling her out of bed into the hallway, and the attic scene. Other parts like her sitting outside with a casual expression and tone could've been done so much better.

5/10? More like -5/10. Goddamn, that movie was so fucking awful it made me mad.

Makes me hate one of my favorite actors.

What the fuck is wrong with his neck? Is it made of putty or something?

The Constant Gardener - 6/10 Was a little heavy-handed with all of the social and political messages they were trying to convey. I thought Ralph Fiennes was good as usual and Rachel Weisz was pretty good, though her character grated on me after a bit. The idea behind the story is very compelling, but I think it just could have been done better. I imagine the book would be a pretty good read, so maybe I'll pick that up.

I got bored and didn't bother finishing it.

BTW who gives 7.5 to terminator 2. Are you kidding? That is basically symbolic of what a perfect movie is.

ahahaha it's really just a cool kick-ass movie. Who cares about the story or acting. He kick so much ass in the movie I could care less about everything else.

Ditto, I've been raving about that film for a long time now, it's just rare to find a really fun fast action flick like that with a lead as quality as Neeson. Definite win, especially if you're not expecting Citizen Kane. The rest of the major character cast is actually kind of weak, although the 'Euro' leads and bad guys are pretty decent.

As for Tyson, I was very impressed with that as well, just not to the 10/10 level. Maybe I don't have a film that could hit 10/10, other than perhaps Godfather and Casablanca, films that are more impressive as you find out more about them, and look at the eras from whence they emerged. Anyone interested in very personal documentaries like that absolutely has to see the Errol Morris McNamara doc 'The Fog of War', just spellbinding stuff from a man whose direct actions affected the lives of billions, not to mention what he witnessed. I came in expecting to hate him, but as it ended I found myself respecting him quite a bit, unbegrudgingly.

Shoot Em Up is awesomely bad. Pretty sure Clive kills a dude with a carrot in the first 10 mins. I loved it.

I just saw Shoot Em Up again (had it for awhile in my DVD). It was a great movie, chuckled a lot in most scenes.

The centipede 7.5/10 - One word: Disturbing

Funny People - very long 2.5 hr movie, better than I expected but drawn out a little. Favorite part was all the funny and unexpected cameos in it. I think I'd give it 7.5/10

Decent enough for what it was. Certainly over the top, but the production was worthwhile.

I don't know what to say about someone who doesn't think every second of Firefly is awesome. :\ Are you watching them out of order or something?
