You should've asked if they had a sense of humor you could rent as well.

I have plenty of it but think I only cracked a smile in the show during two parts, the "hello cunts" part someone mentioned already and the part where the fat bodyguard says everything is under control as he grabs the bazooka.

Lack of humor in that movie was far from the only thing it failed in.

Lots of humour in that movie. Some like it, apparently you do not.

Sunshine - 9.5/10: Best movie I've seen all year, by far. Had the ending not been a little cheesy, it would have been a 10/10.

Watched this tonight. I'll give it a 7/10

It was a decent movie. I thought it had a lot of potential that it didn't take advantage of though. The scenario was really cool, the scenes/sets were pretty awesome, especially in the beginning when you are seeing things for the first time. The beginning throws some cool stuff at you, maybe a little forced, but still cool.

Story is that the sun is dying, and this crew was sent to save it. There was another mission 7 years earlier, but that failed.

The beginning sets the premise, and like I mentioned, shows off some cool CGI. Eventually the movie gets moving, and the middle of the movie is really good and very interesting, setting up some good stuff.

Later it turns a bit and I didn't really like it that much. The ending confused me a bit. The parts I didn't like really brought down the rest of the movie, which really had some bright spots, no pun intended. Worth a watch though, especially if you like those space thrillers.

A couple Netflix on Demand movies from the last few months:

Spiral - 8/10. Excellent pacing. Ending was great.

A few from the "Masters of Horror" series -

Cigarette Burns - 7.5/10. Another good one. Creepy and strange. There were a few scenes that felt very rushed though, almost to the point of being nonsensical, which was a letdown.

Incident On and Off a Mountain Road - 3/10. Generic slasher. Meh.

Dreams in the Witch House - 5/10. Mediocre acting and plenty of poorly written parts, not too terrible though. Worth a watch if you're into the genre.

Other stuff:

Fourth Kind - 4(7)/10. I *really* didn't like the split camera/"real" footage thing. An interesting idea, but totally pulled you out of the film IMO. The intro and other bullshit that went along with it were poorly done and unnecessary as well. That aside, a few silly moments, but overall plot progression was good. If you take the ~60 or so minutes that didn't suck, it actually makes for a decent movie. Done differently I think this could have been pretty good. I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff so I'll give it a 7 despite the flaws, but really it deserves worse.

Paranormal Activity - 10/10. This was a rewatch, but I'm mentioning it anyway because it's fucking fantastic. The mounting dread and sense of isolation were very well executed.

Wow I watch a lot of horror movies...

Juno - 6/10. Decent, though ultimately disappointing. The comedic moments were alright, the dramatic themes weren't as compelling. Ellen Page is cute.

The Men Who Stare At Goats - 6/10: I didn't mind this too much, I guess my expectations were super low based on all the hate it received. It wasn't great, but I think the fact I like this cast so much, it would be hard for me to hate it and I did actually laugh out loud once or twice. The ending was pretty stupid, but yeah, an innocuous comedy with some fun characters, but not enough laughs.

Recorded this off the movie channel last night. I'll be checking it out shortly; I love Milla. :sneaky:

The Losers - 8/10 - This was recommended to me by a friend - otherwise I probably would have let it pass me by. It's a highly entertaining, clever action romp with a great ensemble cast, apparently based on a DC graphic novel. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (last seen, at least by me, as the Comedian in Watchmen) heads what is essentially a thinking man's A-Team. Definitely recommended if you're in the mood for some escapist fun.

The Wolfman - 2/10 Really awful performance by Benicio Del toro. I don't think he uttered a single convincing line in the entire movie. Anthony Hopkins was much better, but still nothing special. Plot was terrible, acting was terrible, special effects were meh. Movie was bad.

Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War - 8/10
A Korean movie about the Korean war. Casting some well known actors with good production values. Although I felt the narrative was a little cliché and supporting characters not fully developed. The movie explores the 'homefront' aspect to the war, with only sparring mentions of the UN forces. Battles are Korean/Korean and there was a scene with communist "collaborators" that was quite good.

Oldboy - 7/10
Another Korean movie, this based off a Japanese manga series. The main character, Min-sik Choi, does an excellent job of portraying the psychological damage 15 years of captivity can do to a person. The story carries a fairly predictable twist once the main villian's motive is revealed, though. Decent fight scenes and it kept me interested for 2 hours.

I've been spending a few nights with a Korean girl who likes to show off her country's films...;)

To me, this was the worst movie I've seen all year so far. It was so terrible and even the wolf fx looked crappy.

My GF and I gave it 4 on next flix.. Not what i was expecting either.

Just saw 2012

Movie was too long. If they it made it more concise and sped up the pacing in some sections the movie probably would have been better.

Precious 1/10: Depressing lefty tripe. If Precious was a white trash girl this film would have never been made. More depressing than Requiem for a Dream. How this film got so much praise is beyond me.

kick Ass - 7/10 - It was funny. Made it all the way through. The thing is, at 34, I just don't find alot of the slapstick stuff funny anymore. Don't mistake me, I did have some chuckles.

Having said that, I can see how anyone under 25 could enjoy this movie and give it a 10/10. It was very well done. Good acting and good storyline. It's worth while renting. I just don't think many people over 45 will care for it.

Getting old sucks. It's not just hte joints that start to make funny noises.

It was fucking horrible. I don't care about language either, but that part where her mom started yelling at her up the stairs, there was a constant 5 minute stream of the word fuck, and it honestly made me mad.

He Was a Quiet Man - 8/10
Good movie, and I expected the ending (sorta), but something about it doesn't feel quite right...

I didn't think the movie was that good either but it's called realism.

No it is called over the top-ism. It was just fucking stupid, and I've been around black people like that and their families (sorta), and it is not exactly like that. It is bad, but there's a point where you have to say "no". Not only that, as dwell mentioned, it was over the top feel bad about black people bullshit.

I've heard people of all color use the word fuck for much longer than that. It wasn't that bad at that part and like I said, I didn't care for the movie much either.

Love it or hate it, the movie was not about feeling bad for black people. Perhaps you mistook the film for something it wasn't. By my count, it wouldn't be the first time.

Saw this the other night too. Went into it expecting something much, much less entertaining than it really was based on the lackluster reviews/medial. But it really was a very funny, entertaining movie with the right type of sarcastic one-liners dropped at the perfect times.

Chris Evans (Johnny Storm, Fantasic 4) was a riot with the best lines in the movie. You could tell it was a movie where the cast really did gel together and had fun making it.

Get Low - 8.5/10: Robert Duvall is freaking awesome as a surly old man, with a big secret in his past, that decides to have his funeral while he is still alive. The 1930's setting is great and most of the supporting does a very good job, but this film is all about Duvall, from the beginning, right to the very moving climax. Pretty simple film, but with heart and some good chuckles along the way. Really hard not to like this film.

Deliver Us From Evil - 9/10: An extremely difficult, moving documentary about Father Oliver O'Grady, a catholic priest from Ireland who molested children in various small towns in California during the 70s. They talk to the victims and, amazingly, the priest himself (also various other people with interest in the case). O'Grady is a complete psychopath and the fact the Catholic church covered for him for so long, it's absolutely fucking disgusting. It was really hard to watch this film at points, but I'm glad I saw it as it was really eye opening.

Saving Private Ryan - 8/10: Finally got around to this one and I did enjoy it quite a bit; the set pieces were amazing, though I thought the very beginning and the end, with the old man, was ridiculous and a complete waste of time. Rolled my eyes a lot at those parts, but I guess that's just Spielberg's need to inject some extra sentimentality or something. Quite an interesting cast too, though I'm not sure all of them worked. Probably could have trimmed about 20 minutes off it to make things a little more tight, but a good film overall.

The Fourth Kind - 4.5/10: A tale of two movies! The attempt to try and make this film seem real, by injecting all of the "real" footage and interviews, was the real downfall here. If you are going to try something like that, you need to have people that do not feel like actors, you need to have "real" people; the Jovovich parts were decent enough, maybe a 6 or so, but those injections of realism really killed things. I like an alien abduction story as much as the next guy, but trying to blend styles like is done here, needs the hand of someone much more skilled than the writers/directors here.

Ya, totally agree. Seemed like senseless pandering really. The story was about the Characters, but the beginning/end were not about the Characters at all. :\
