Get Low - 8.5/10: Robert Duvall is freaking awesome as a surly old man, with a big secret in his past, that decides to have his funeral while he is still alive. The 1930's setting is great and most of the supporting does a very good job, but this film is all about Duvall, from the beginning, right to the very moving climax. Pretty simple film, but with heart and some good chuckles along the way. Really hard not to like this film.
Deliver Us From Evil - 9/10: An extremely difficult, moving documentary about Father Oliver O'Grady, a catholic priest from Ireland who molested children in various small towns in California during the 70s. They talk to the victims and, amazingly, the priest himself (also various other people with interest in the case). O'Grady is a complete psychopath and the fact the Catholic church covered for him for so long, it's absolutely fucking disgusting. It was really hard to watch this film at points, but I'm glad I saw it as it was really eye opening.
Saving Private Ryan - 8/10: Finally got around to this one and I did enjoy it quite a bit; the set pieces were amazing, though I thought the very beginning and the end, with the old man, was ridiculous and a complete waste of time. Rolled my eyes a lot at those parts, but I guess that's just Spielberg's need to inject some extra sentimentality or something. Quite an interesting cast too, though I'm not sure all of them worked. Probably could have trimmed about 20 minutes off it to make things a little more tight, but a good film overall.
The Fourth Kind - 4.5/10: A tale of two movies! The attempt to try and make this film seem real, by injecting all of the "real" footage and interviews, was the real downfall here. If you are going to try something like that, you need to have people that do not feel like actors, you need to have "real" people; the Jovovich parts were decent enough, maybe a 6 or so, but those injections of realism really killed things. I like an alien abduction story as much as the next guy, but trying to blend styles like is done here, needs the hand of someone much more skilled than the writers/directors here.
