The Breakfast Club - 6/10 - Didn't expect much from this one. Nothing remarkable about it.

for some reason I don't remember much of Tyson, but I remember enjoying it. that dude is some kind of crazy though. you're right, damn lucky he had a mentor that he listened to otherwise he would probably be dead

This week I'm going to Florida with my gf to visit her grandpa. Staying in the guest house with no tv, probably no internet. Finishing up the last couple episodes of the Brotherhood series for my 2nd time, her first, then starting on OZ. Much easier to binge on TV than movies

Yep, either that or life in prison for sure, just from the stories he was telling of his childhood. Even though things went bad for him, it could have been far, far worse.

Nothing remarkable about the greatest coming-of-age character study on film to date? Come on now, I can see not appreciating the content but the acting and interaction was genuine.

The Inglorious Bastards 1978 - 6/10

I was disappointed with this. It was a decently good film, but, the dialogue was horrible. It was very cheesy, and things just seemed too convenient. The plot and story were good. The acting was good. The movie had an awesome attitude. It could have been so much more. I watched it from IFC, and they had an English Dubbed version. I believe the dubbing took away from the film, and had a lot to do with my problems with the dialogue and cheesiness. I would like to see this in it's original language with subtitles.

Makin progress on my home theater, ordered a Mitsubishi 3800 with a 106 inch screen from Costco, and my ceiling is nearly done (will finish it off after I mount the projector and screen) Walls are almost ready to paint. I predict that in about 3-4 weeks, I'll be going on a weeklong movie marathon... muahahahahaahah!

If you do it, you'll likely run out of money a bunch of times ... Been working on this on and off for about 2 years ....

All the while, using my old Toshiba 61inch 4:3 rear projection 640i set. Black levels and contrast are great, and it's actually very bright, but, it takes up my whole living room (and won't fit down the stairs into the basement.) So, I'm VERY much looking forward to this. I wanted a 92-96 inch screen, but the costco deal was too good to pass up, so that's why I'm getting the 106 (my room is only 10 feet wide ... hah)

My movie marathon will be on patio furniture, as I pretty much have $0 left in the budget, hahaha.

Haha, well whatever works at that point. So which film have you chosen to pop the cherry on that setup?

kick-ass 8/10 - not what I expected, but loved how it was shot and all the comic book jokes and tie ins.

Haven't decided for sure .... I think maybe I'll watch Band of Brothers first ... as it's got great production value, and is a wonderful story with great acting. Would love to see it on a big screen!

I also think Ran or Kagemusha would be great with a big screen, since the cinematography in those movies is just so fantastic. Otherwise, I plan to catch up on stuff I haven't seen yet... Should be getting a BluRay player as soon as I have the budget for it, and while I don't plan to re-buy much, I will be buying BoB and select favorites on BluRay...

It was only ok for me. Not that great cus in the previews they gave away most of the funniest parts of the movie.

A History of Violence 4/10 - Cronenberg needs to stick to the bizarre gore / psychological horror flicks he's so known for. This is probably his most "normal" film to date, though I admit not knowing a lot of his work. Unfortunately it's largely a failure. I won't give away the plot except to say it revolves around a man living a quaint family life who has a violent past that comes bad to haunt him. There are some nice Cronenberg touches in here. Many of the sets are very well shot and the film conveys a sense of tension and suspense very well. However it fairly quickly devolves from an interesting suspense/thriller into an almost laughably bad Steven Seagal like kill fest. I guess part of the problem is that Cronenberg can't quite let go of his bizarre fantasy world with its angular larger than life characters. That's fine in the type of genre he has helped to pioneer but when you drag it into a film set in the "real world" it ends up being more comical seeming than anything.

Yeah, I only found this one to be ok too, though I think I liked it a bit more than you. I did, however, love Eastern Promises.

Ninja Assassin - 5.0 / 10 - Weak weak story & characters. Worse dialog. Only decent thing was the fighting visuals. Made a little worse by the fact the disc we got was scratched enough to have to skip ~5min near the climax of the movie. Though, honestly I didn't really care too much at that point.

Eastbound & Down - Season 1 - 8.5/10 - HBO (mini?)series I had never heard of until a friend dropped season one off at my house. Follows an ex-major league pitcher into life after the big leagues. oh, and hes a major asshole with a hilariously skewed self-centered worldview. funny, though crude at times (not a bad thing at all, just wont appeal to everyone). looking fwd to second season.

I don't really remember a history of violence. Not even if I liked it or not. I guess that says something

Watched Losers over the weekend. Not bad, had some ok laughs in it. Lead character keeps reminding me of Brad Garrett (brother in Everybody Loves Raymond) though. I'd give it a generous 7/10.

"The greatest" is subjective. To be further subjective, I'd go one step farther and say that this is the greatest coming of age movie for people that were about the age of 13 when it came out. Each generation gets one of these movies for their own.
