Flyboys- 8/10 solid flick. great dogfights and not a bad story line. MUCH better then the red baron.

Stealth- 6/10 decent movie not a great plot but still watchable.

The taking of Phelem 123- 8/10 good movie nice plot great actors.Def worth the watch.

I actually really enjoy Stealth. The dialogue is cheesy and the plot is absurd, but it's good mindless fun.

She's out of my League - 5/10: My wife liked it more than I did I think. There were a few parts that were funny but it was pretty cookie cutter really.

Hot Tub Time Machine - 5/10: I really thought it was going to be funnier than it was. It wasn't as raunchy or out there as I would think it was consider the name of the movie and the previews. It was just OK and nothing more.

Toy Story 3 - I think I mentioned it already, but if I have not. 10/10. Go see this movie! It's great for kids or your first date. Seriously. You'd probably get a second date off of this movie.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans - 7.5/10 - Liked this a lot, and it proves that Nicolas Cage can still provide a (more than) tolerable performance. I thought Xzibit was an odd choice. Some real laugh-out-loud moments, like the gratuitously long iguana scene and the breakdancing soul. All around, highly enjoyable and not at all what I was expecting.

Metropolis (1927 - new restoration, with 2008 found footage) - 9.5/10: Lucky enough to catch a screening of this on its run here and wow, I'm sure glad I did. Been many years since I last saw this, but it never looked as good as this, in the original parts anyway, the footage found in Buenos Aires was in pretty rough shape, but the original, restored parts looked stunning. This film really blows me away with how impressive the sets and effects are, it must have cost a fortune to make. Sure, some of the acting is a bit much, but it does not really matter as that was how it worked at the time, I was completely sucked in again and completely forgot I was watching a silent movie (the score was fantastic, which helped). Anyway, if you have a chance to see the new restoration in the theatre, I highly recommend it. I think they update the site here with tour dates: http://www.kino.com/metropolis/main.html

Good to hear. I've got it in the zip list and have been looking forward to watching it at some point!

Just saw Twilight the other day. That got to be one of the most boring movies that I had watched. I will give it a 5/10.

I liked Twilight:) But I hated New Moon!! The only person worth watching in the whole Twilight series is Jacob:wub::wub:

A Perfect Getaway - 3/10. I was bored and couldn't fall asleep, and then felt stupider having watched all the way to the end.

Twilight was a good movie to laugh at. I watched it at a free screening and everyone kept laughing at the ridiculous seens. By everyone, I meant about 80% of the theater. I'm sure the other 20% were diehard Twilight fans, seething with rage.

New Moon got a more serious director, and therefore became much less interesting to watch. It was full of whining, sad looks, and generally drab acting.

Recently I've seen:

Avatar - 3/10

I haven't even seen the series, but this movie was pretty ridiculously underwhelming. Also, ALL of the changes they made were nonsensical. Soaka? Ahng? Kii? Ahvatar? Dragon man?

Moon - 6/10

While the movie has an interesting concept and a well developed atmosphere, it fails to deliver in the end, and left me feeling like unsatisfied.

Prince of Persia - 6/10

A decent action flick with a predictable story (especially if you have played the games). I like how the director incorporated some of the game's elements into the movie, but most of these appeared in the beginning of the fiml and became missing as the film went on.

Definitely check out the series (Airbender). Just watch the first season and you'll see why it is impossible to fit the char development, plot arc, and comedic interjections into a 2hour movie. It's only made worst b/c of M.Night Failalan directing it. I guess there's no chance of a faithful adaptation now.

As for movies seen recently - I saw Karate Kid. It's a decent, 7/10 kind of flick. No real risks taken...but you can see liberties in the translation if you are Chinese. But you're not missing THAT much if you don't though.

Something about the tournament sequence (particularly the music selection) made me lol. But overall still a silly fun flick, that doesn't take itself seriously.

Manderlay - 7/10: Part 2 in Lars Von Trier's "USA: Land Of Opportunity" trilogy, the follow up to Dogville. This time Bryce Dallas Howard takes over the role of Grace and the story revolves around slavery in Alabama in the 1930s. Aside from the beginning, the story is solid, though not quite as engaging as Dogville. The setting is nowhere near as interesting, being even more minimalist than the first film, but the biggest problem is Howard who is no Nicole Kidman. Kidman was absolutely enchanting in the first film and Howard never really engaged me at all. This is a pretty big issue since the story revolves entirely around her, however I did still enjoy the story as it does get into a lot of dark ares like Von Trier always does and some of the other supporters were quite good. I just wish Kidman would have remained as Grace. Anyway, if the the third part of the trilogy ever gets made I'll be there to watch it.

Too bad you couldn't make it to the theatre. I think that made me enjoy it even more.

Also, very happy to see people enjoying Bad Lieutenant. A crazy film, but so much fun; much more enjoyable than the Keitel Bad Lieutenant.

I had intended to see it when it was in theaters, but I missed my chance. I was a little torn on how to score it -- it dealt with some heavy subject matter, but it was a little more darkly humorous than expected. I guess I was expecting something more gritty, but that doesn't necessarily mean I was disappointed. Definitely a fun flick, and one I wouldn't mind watching again immediately.

I'm definitely going to check out Ferrara's original, but I know enough about it to realize it's going to be much less of a joyride.

Been watching some older stuff over the weekend

The Crow 6/10 Basic dude back from the dead to seek revenge on the people that killed him and his soon to be wife. Just not as good as I remember but still not bad.

Heathers 7/10 At Westburg High, you're either a Heather or a nobody. And while Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder) might not be named Heather, she's a hands-down Heather in spirit, waging battles in the school's full-scale popularity war ... but it's all getting to be a bit too much. Enter mysterious newcomer Jason (Christian Slater), who offers her the perfect -- albeit deadly -- solution to end the Heathers's social tyranny.
Still pretty good and worth watching if you haven't seen it.

The Burbs 8.5/10 The power team of Tom Hanks and Corey Feldman. A new weird secretive family moves into the neighborhood and all the neighbors are paranoid thinking they are Satan worshiping killers. The cast in this is great and it is just an all around fun movie that has held up well.

Ferrara's film is pretty rough. Kermode says it's a Catholic redemption film, which sounds about right. I like the film, but it's not one I like to re-visit often, unlike Herzog's film which I can watch over and over.

I was a GINORMOUS fan of Twilight (the novel) - didnt know it was popular though, I *borrowed* the book from a friend.. I thought that it was just a coincidence that a movie called "Twilight" came out a coupla months after I read the book hahahaha.

Eh, New Moon seriously sucks balls - and I dont even want to waste my time reading Eclipse.. so back to Harlequinn Mills&Boon I go:D

Kick Ass: 9/10 - Seriously, was really shocked at this movie! I thought it was a happy family movie.. it really wasnt! Anywho, the little girl is adorable, the movie was cringey and great! Recommend to all:)

Ah, yes. The Crow. I used to love that movie but it doesn't do it for me anymore either. I think it falls into the category of once you know the story, it is not as amazing as the first time you saw it. It does a very good job of making you feel connected to the characters. Still a must see if you haven't seen it though.

The Burbs .... not awesome but a classic! Another must see.

Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo - Two ratings:
5/10 if you think pop music is music and not what it really is, entertainment.
An 8/10 if you like jam bands or atleast know what Phish and The Grateful Dead or Warren Haynes are all about. Or if you actually like bands that play live music, live. As a fan of jam bands, I have this to say. It is a well done mocumentary. It is a must see for any fan of music. Anyone in a band should probably see it as well. The pros are that I actually laughed a good number of times. The jokes work. The bad news is that there are a few lulls in the movie and there was one 1-2 minute scene where I cringed at the acting. While the acting was good overall, this was basically musicians playing the role of musicians. More fun for them than actual acting but it works. Without the lulls though, it would have been a 9.5/10. Also, I think anyone that appreciates Spinal tap should see this movie! And best yet, it is available via Netflix streaming!

I enjoyed Georgia Rule.. i would give it a 5.5-7 out of ten. But that only becuase its been a while since I watched it. I didn't think it was a masterpiece, but it certainly wasn't crap.

The Crossing Guard - 5.5/10: I like the idea of this film, but the execution fell a bit flat to me. This stars Jack Nicholson as a now divorced Father who lost his daughter to a drunk driver. It focuses on Jack's desire for revenge (well his heartbreak really) and how it has overwhelmed his life. I found some of the direction to be kind of spotty, with some weird shots and some awkward sequences. There were some great pieces, like most of the stuff with Nicholson and Anjelica Houston, but even almost all of the stuff David Morse does was sort of awkward and weird. It was ok, but by the end I wanted it to just, well, end.

A-Team the movie 7/10. It wasn't a bad action adventure flick. Started out a little implausible in the begining, got normal-ish during the middle and then got inplausible at the end. Jessica Biel actually looked attractive in the movie! I would reccomend this as a rental movie.

Boy Interrupted - Scary freaking film. Didn't realize that kind of disease could do that. Pretty messed up if you ask me when it is hopeless to save your own family member no matter what you try to do. Very sad.

Standard Operating Procedure - 8/10: Errol Morris' documentary on Abu Ghraib, which focuses on the stories of the soldiers there, through interviews with most of them, along with re-enactments and of course all of the pictures taken throughout the ordeal. I love Morris' style of course and I also found the story of the soldiers to be very interesting; the way it's presented is quite slick. I of course knew about all of this when it was going on, but did not really read too much in detail, so a lot of the information presented here was new to me and it was good to hear everything from the soldier's perspective, in their own words.
