It is very good. It was on TV the other day and while I did not have time to watch the whole thing, I watched a good 30 minute chunk; I'd forgotten how good it is.

KT

absolutely fucking fantastic film!

Some folks call it a sling blade, ... , I call it a Kaiser blade Ummmhmmmm

You got any biscuits for sale in there, umm...

One of the best scenes!: Don't watch if you haven't seen it yet:

Where the Wild things are - 10/10. It's great to see Jim Henson's creature shop back in action! I thought this movie was a terrific interpretation of the book and enjoyed every minute of the film. Reminded me what it was like to be a kid.
I was blown away when the credits listed that the monsters were suits and not CGIs.

Jack and the Beanstalk - 5/10:
Well made but I just cant get into these anymore. A friend wanted me to see it but I just didnt care. On the plus side, this movie is pedobears dream.

Its on Netflix right now in HD, which is worth mentioning all by itself. They dont have much for HD streaming but what they do have looks awesome, especially newer movies shot in HD or transferred with modern techniques.

Shutter Island - 8/10. One of the better movies I have seen. 130 minutes and did not once get bored. Not perfect but still pretty well done.

Clash of the Titans (2010)

5.7/10 I am not a fan of the dude that plays Persius. his acting seemed over the top.

A Serious Man - 5/10

I am a huge Coen brothers fan, but this movie irritated the hell out of me. I found myself not caring about any of the symbolism or whatever they were trying to accomplish. I just wanted the main character to flip out and go on a rampage. The guy basically has the worst life ever, and is continuously crapped on by the most annoying ensemble of characters I've ever seen in a movie.

Ivan the Terrible Pt 1 - 1944 - 8/10
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037824/
This is my second Eisenstein movie. The first one I've seen is Battleship Potemkin. There are vast differences between the two. Ivan the Terrible had a great script, good acting, good cinematography, and overall, was a great film. It also showed Eisenstein had his own ideas about film, and didn't just want to make propaganda. Netflix sent out Part 2 this week, and I am eager to watch it.

Damn, this was probably my favourite film from last year. :hmm:

Wild Bill - 3/10:
Horribly shot, especially the annoying use of washed out B&W that looks like cheap video (totally inappropriate for an Old West film). Poor acting from mostly the whole cast, but its especially bad from the veteran actors like Jeff Bridges and John Hurt. Some laughably bad historical deviations and they didnt spend nearly enough time looking at the interesting things that really happened in his life. Pretty sad all around.
Even worse that we've had better interpretations of his life from other sources like Deadwood on HBO.

The A-Team - 7.75/10 - I was aware of the show when I was younger, but a bit too young to really get into it. Exposure was probably just watching when my dad had it on. I liked this movie. Only criticisms would be giving Bradley Cooper a bit too much screen time, and I really didn't like the way they developed Lynch's character. Small complaints, in general left satisfied.

Blood Simple - 8/10 - I liked this quite a bit. A very effective noir and the Cohens' first film, I'm a little surprised at myself for not having watched this sooner.

I enjoyed it much more than A Serious Man. :p

The Road- 7.5/10 It's decent, but it's easily the most depressing movie I've ever seen. At several points I wished that gun had 3 bullets; one for both of the main characters, and one for me.

Mr. Brooks - 7/10 - Good movie overall where the whole movie is better than the sum of its parts. Kevin Costner plays a wealthy businessman who is under constant pressure from his alter ego to kill. The alter ego is played excellently by William Hurt and it's done very well. Demi Moore is also in the movie as a police officer trying to track him down and other than being too damn good looking for the part she doesn't detract.

Gattaca - 5/10 - Terribly boring. There is no action in the movie to speak of and the acting itself is dull and lifeless. The story is interesting but centers around genetically altered people that have zero emotion and at the end of the movie that's how I felt...zero emotion. It was a 1 hour and 45 minute movie that felt much longer.

Magnolia - 5/10
Huge meh. Characters felt cliched and not terribly well done. Didn't really care for/about any of the characters (best one was probably John C Reilly's). Frogs were just stupid. It, the singing, and the intro/outro felt really out of place to me. Actually some of the scenes and characters would have been ok, but others were way too serious/dramatic and it seemed to pervade the rest which hurt it.

The Machinist 5/10
Wasn't really impressed with this but can't really explain what I found lacking. I'd actually say Bale's look was overdone and even a distraction (not too believable that he'd survive being hit by a car in that state).

Deal of the Century - 7/10
Weird movie with Chevy Chase and Gregory Hines. Its sorta Lord of War meets Stealth, only not crap.

The Word's Fastest Indian - 7.5/10
Some of the scenes felt a bit forced, but still enjoyable.

Fargo - 6/10
Wasn't bad (I have a friend that hates it), but I'm not really seeing why its so well liked. Guess I'll just chalk it up to another Coen Brothers movie that I don't particularly like (only two I've really liked so far have been The Hudsucker Proxy and one of my favorite movies The Big Lebowski).

Time After Time - 7.5/10
Finally a sci-fi movie that didn't make me think I was crazy and overly-critical of the genre. A time traveling H.G. Wells inadvertently releases Jack the Ripper on 1970s San Francisco. Yeah the premise is kinda silly but execution was good.

Class - 7/10
Jacqueline Bisset: woah. So much better than crap like American Pie. I'd put it a bit lower than The Graduate.

Matinee - 7.5/10

Die Hard 2 - 7/10

Young Einstein - 6.5/10
Stupid but still fairly amusing. Better than the average overlydone satire but not a great movie.

Fright Night - 7.5/10
Pretty well done vampire movie. Kinda reminds me of another horror movie that I'm trying to find. Ah, found it, its Phantasm

Phantasm - 8/10
Well done horror movie.

It's been a while, but I remember quite liking this film. :hmm: I'll have to check it out again.
