You Don't Mess With the Zohan - 7/10 - Better than I was expecting, some funny moments. Some of the wire work was pretty clever. Was a little too long, and some of the jokes wore thin after a while but not bad.

Taken 7.5-8/10 - This was better than I expected. I thought it looked okay from the trailers and picked it up on netflix. The story was pretty much as expected, but the story telling was better than anticipated. I guess I went in expecting some cheesy "rawr I'm a badass" type story - which there was some off, but everything was so neatly done. I'd recommend it to people.

Toy Story 3 - Very good movie, recommend for all ages. The pinkie/purple bear was a bad ass. Love the different modes of Buzz Lightyear. I haven't watch TS 1 and 2 and will watch both of them very soon. Grade = 8.5/10.

A Team - too much over the top action, trying too hard, too much cliches (stupid worthless clueless government agencies and our guys were the only ones that could saved the day). A tank that dropping from over 10,000 feet with 1 shot out parachute? Yeah right. Grade = 4.5/10 (Jessica Biel saved the movie from her good look).

Karate Kid - that kid was so annoying, out of character due to his small size (compared to other characters), unnecessary cussing and angry/piss off modes (I would slap him silly if he was my kid and talked to his mom like that). Holding hands and kissing a rich smart girl in China while he was not even Asian? Yeah right. Grade = 3/10 (watch the original with Daniel San and Mr. Miagi, you thank me later).

Agreed, I was expecting garbage, but it was pretty damn funny IMO...

Heat - 8/10 - Hadn't seen this in several years, got it streaming on Netflix. Action out the wazoo although as amazing as the movie is it might be a tad bit too long. Well casted, decent plot.

Iron Man 2 - 7/10 - I knew it wouldn't be as good as the first movie (which I am a big fan of) but it wasn't horrible. What surprised me is that my wife liked it even more than I did. Fun, but suffers from the issue that a few other super hero movies seem to have: Movie #2 has to intruduce forced humor.

Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz - 8.5/10 - My wife picked it up at Wal Mart, still an amazing classic.

Next Up - Zombieland

Splice 9/10

I expected absolutely nothing from this movie, so I was totally shocked at the awesomeness that was Splice. Very Army of Darkness in the way the story unfolds, with the absurdity cranking up exponentially with each scene and plot twist. If you’re the guy that’s always bemoaning the implausibility of various aspects of movies, just stay at home and watch the History Channel, but if you want to lose yourself for a bit and laugh/squirm/groan, this is a can’t miss. Wife and I saw it as a matinee but I would’ve paid full price knowing what I know now. One of my favorites of the year so far. This is a totally ridiculous movie but I loved it.

Get Him to the Greek 1/10

This is a dreadful film and I would not recommend anyone ever see it. If you’re trapped under something heavy and it’s on a screen in front of you, I would watch it rather than, say, gnaw off my own arm or swallow my tongue, but other than that it’s unwatchable. The only reason wife and I even saw it was because we were trapped in LA waiting for a plane. Jonah Hill is fat and awkward and I guess that’s supposed to be funny, as is Puff Daddy essentially playing an amplified version of himself, as is vomiting? Yes there’s lots of vomiting. I don’t know how a movie like this gets made. Does the story come first or does the studio just say “Russell Brand, Jonah Hill, P Diddy; GO!” It really couldn’t have been worse. I would have given it 0, but the audiences’ deafening silence following one of P-Diddy’s many profanity-laced tirades – which are presumably supposed to be funny – warrant a +1 from me. So it gets a 1 on accident.

The Hangover - 6/10

Latest riff on the "Night from Hell" plot that is very funny in spots, but also very uneven. A few re-writes short of great comedy.

Maybe if I had seen it after a few drinks in a crowded theater it would have come off better. But at home, on video, it really stalled.

Ed Helms, whom I really like, is such a ninny at the start that I couldn't really buy his transformation at the end.

The teacher steals from his students in the beginning of the movie, and is a general insufferable ass. The next day, at the end of the movie, he's learned some sort of lesson, I guess, kissing his wife tenderly and holding his sleeping kid with a contented look on his face. Did his handlers require the movie to leave a positive image of him for the audience?

Was the bearded guy child molester? Or was he dealing drugs to grade scool kids?

The Gay Asian mobster was too much to take, even for a movie like this.

I could go on, but the point of a movie like this is that you shouldn't feel like you have to. It should dissolve like mist in your mind.

But "The Hangover" left lead pellets in my brain.

Sling Blade - 3/10 - Wow, slow plot development. Watched about 90 minutes of this 2+ hour movie. And shut it off. my wife and I both just got bored with it. I am not sure why it is so well loved 96% on rotten tomatoes. It's supposed to be one of the best movies from the 90s. If more footage was cut, maybe. I'd say not to waste your time but it is obvious that alot of people will like it based o nthe RT score and things I have read about it.

Sherlock Holmes - 6.5/10. Entertaining enough that I watched it twice in a row.

Alice in Wonderland - 7/10. I was sure that I was going to hate this remake but Johnny Depp and Tim Burton pull it off. The film is lacking a little in the "muchness" department (missing the WTF moments of the original) but all in all, two thumbs up.

Where the Wild things are - 10/10. It's great to see Jim Henson's creature shop back in action! I thought this movie was a terrific interpretation of the book and enjoyed every minute of the film. Reminded me what it was like to be a kid.

No kidding. I can understand not being in the mood for a slow, odd, very character-driven drama, but it's definitely one of the best movies of the 90s, and perhaps the best thing BBT has ever done. Lots of great supporting work as well, and it doesn't try to gloss things over about mental illness or any kind of forced 'happy' ending.

Deadwood - 1876/10
Fanfuckingtastic. Best soap opera ever made. And probably HBO's best show ever.
Awesome characters all around. Al Swearengen is Tourettes answer to Darth Vader. Excellent stories and dialog. Only sad thing is cuz of corporate issues it lasted just 3 short seasons.

It is very good. It was on TV the other day and while I did not have time to watch the whole thing, I watched a good 30 minute chunk; I'd forgotten how good it is.

I like Westerns and the Old West, so I watched the 1st episode of Deadwood. I don't think I'll watch another episode. So way over the top and just rather boring.

Also the writing gets much better with each episode. The finale is the best by far.

I don't think I have a single complaint about it. Its one of those movies I could watch over and over without ever getting bored during any part. I guess it isn't for everyone though. I won't make any sweeping judgements about the people who don't like it though :)
