Tomb Raider (2018)

Definitely an action flick. I'd say it's better than the first two movies (with Angelina Jolie), a more professional production all-round, unlike those two this has nothing cringe-worthily wrong with it, less obviously male-gazey too. The plot works well enough, it's lightly based on the 2013 game but has a better plot; no attempted rape scenes, less disaster porn and associated weird shit. As an action flick I enjoyed it.

Everything Everywhere All at Once - 7/10

Meh. Maybe it was overhyped or something, but this movie just did not do it for me. I'm all about these types of movies too, but something fell flat for me with this one. Maybe they were just trying to be a little to quirky and "weird" in that feigned Asian movie sense? The Ratatouille stuff, the buttplugs, the everything bagel... the list is long and I think that's my point. There was a lot of things thrown at the wall thinking/hoping something would stick with each audience member.

That being said, I liked the idea and the concept overall. I thought they did a great job of handholding every one through what was a pretty complicated idea. And the acting and production/directing was great.

Definitely not my top movie of 2022

Mo - kind of a comedy show with a bit of drama. About a Palestinian asylum seeker and all his situations. But the main guy is a comedian so it's very comedy-based. It's a pretty good show fun to watch. On Netflix and season 2 just got announced that it's happening.

Nobody watching The Last of Us? This third episode hit hard and there is some good backstory now for their journey

Spoiler - do not read this link if you don't want spoilers. It explains the evolution of this third episode storyline which crushed it.

I wasn't sure about the girl coz she looked a bit psycho compared to her game character but she won me over in Ep2. I guess they needed someone a bit crazy and rebellious to make the story seem more interesting (I could also be misremembering the game character coz I played it so long ago).

Anna portrayed Tess amazingly well.
Sad to have her gone :(

absolutely GREAT episode. The show has been fantastic and I love Pedro Pascal to no end (he's an incredible human being). Never played the game, and to be honest a little burned out on zombie stuff, but you knew that HBO was going to crush it and they are. Episode 3 was just fantastically written and acted to say the least. Ron Swanson going FULL Ron Swanson.

I realized something over the past two days, watching some low budget movies with poor direction and generally poor acting but not that bad stories. Watching bad movies makes you appreciate good movies way more than you otherwise would. So if you think that the movies you see aren't as good as you have watched in the past, just watch some movie with a really horrible rating. Then watch a movie with even just an OK IMDB rating of 5.5 or 6. You will love it!

You should watch Ishtar then. Oh and Uwe Ball filmography.

Love the real life story, great book. Some parts are faithful, some for dramatic effect.
Majors and Powell are amazing, but the writing was clunky and and it was very by-the-numbers.
For the book, it's an absolute must read. Inspiring and gut wrenching at the same time.

Aerial combat, while not at the level of Top Gun, was still sufficiently good.

First time I saw the widowmaker planes in a movie. Anyone know what other movies feature them? I'm sure I've never seen them before coz I don't remember seeing any plane ever that could fold its wings. Interesting design. Wonder why they didn't improve upon the design.
Lots of history with this plane. Basically, this version of the radial engine and it's massive prop needed room for clearance. The US mostly dropped the carrier use of the Corsair during WW2 and favored the Hellcat for carrier ops. The Marines loved the Corsair because they were mostly island based with only a few carrier ops throughout the war. The British figured out a few techniques to get them to land their purchased Corsairs to land on carriers, they didn't have much choice. The US adopted some of the British techniques and used them after WW2 and for the Korean war.
Almost every carrier airplane, fighter or not has folding wings. The helicopter rotors also fold in like swiss army knife. One of the few exceptions is the A-4 Skyhawk because the airplane was really tiny, and even proportionally, its delta wing was tiny.
Folding wings is the only way to fit the desired amount of wings or squadrons to fit in the hangers and the deck.

anybody watch Tar? I've been wanting to see it since it was only purchasable for $20, and wasn't gonna do that - now that it is rentable, thinking of watching it this weekend on date night. Reviews are solid, critic and audience.

Its amazing just how funny the HoneyMooners are today. The show is 70 plus years old.

In this episode Ralph gets a letter from the IRS. 10/10

It's a very artsy movie and it's the amazing Cate Blanchett mumbling stuff that just went over my head. If you understand the language of artists, sure, watch it and I think you will enjoy it and learn something new about their creative thinking and processes. I wasn't able to force myself to watch it beyond 30 minutes. Haven't had the will to finish it yet. For a date night? I think you will end up boring your date. You should watch M3GAN instead. There are pretty good scenes in it that will appeal to the motherly side of women.
