I was just scrolling through netflix and want to pass on a recommendation for The Good Cop. Comedic cop show starring josh groban and tony danza. Very underrated, I think it only got one season. From the creator of Monk

Been watching The Last Kingdom about 9th century Britain - since at the time, there was no England. But that's the dream being fought for against Vikings and even other Saxons.

Also watching Money Heist. That's the awkward English name. The Spanish name is Lacasa de papel. which I think means house of paper. It's about a very untypical bank heist were the objective isn't to steal any money, but use the govt's printing presses to make their own - one billion worth of it.

Terra Nova - 5/10 - Awesome premise reduced to mainstream TV cliche after cliche. I strongly dislike how each episdoe is 98% wrapped up all tidy in 42-minutes and the teenage/YA characters are useless. I'm 3 episodes in and half the people are dead, like, how often do you get new people to be just fed to the dinosaurs as everyone dies.

No wonder this got shit-canned after one season.

Yeah I have the DVD set and the creator said in a commentary (or maybe it was an interview) the biggest problem with TV in the late 70's/early 80's is it had devolved so much that most people didnt even pay attention to it. They had it on in the background when they were eating dinner or throwing a party or playing board games or whatever. You could pay attention for 5 seconds at a time because thats how long it took to form a joke and get a laugh, and no ideas were ever more complicated than 5 seconds worth of thinking.
Police Squad required you to really watch the TV and not many audiences were doing that. At least not at the time. in the early 90's TV started evolving and most programming got much better.

I also bought the complete series on DVD back when it was first released in 2006. I had never seen it before and was shocked that there were so few episodes (not even a season).

There was supposed to be a Blu-Ray release this year but it think SARS-CoV-2 may have delayed it.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - 7/10 - You have to be a QT fan to enjoy this movie and its wanderings. It could have been edited much tighter but its not the QT way. Brad Pitt's charcter was by far the most enjoyable and Margot Robbie's the least compelling, total waste of screen time and should have been left on the cutting room floor. So many nuggets/nods to his past movies. I was hoping to see some Stuntman Mike from Kurt Russel....... Old Hollywood Cinematography gets a 10/10.
I am looking forward to the Director's cut at what will have to be 3.5hrs.

Zombieland DoubleTap - 5/10 - This was not a well done sequel. Abigail Breslin grown up was interesting as I still think of her as a tween. This was a movie directed at 14yr olds.

The Nice Guys - 5/10 - I need some help understanding this movie, I just didnt get it. Movie just wandered and I really did not like any of the characters. Why does Hollywood shove pornograpjhy and 14yr olds down our throats? I cringed so much for the dialogue and sex scenes with her as Ryan Goslings daughter and it seems so unneccesary to the movie. I give Boogie Nights a 10/10 so I'm not against porn in film at all.

Both "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and "The Nice Guys" deserve higher ratings. I loved both of them. I agree that OUATIH isn't the best Tarantino movie, but I was thoroughly entertained and grinning ear-to-ear (when I wasn't squirming with discomfort at the parts where QT wants us to feel that way).

Think it was mentioned a long time ago in this thread, but will say again, "Rush" is very, very good. Saw it yesterday, excellent acting and very good racing footage. 8.5/10.
Edit: tells the story of the F1 rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt.

One of my favorites.

"Rush" (2013) is an under appreciated movie.

I never gave a shit about F1 or any kind of racing that wasn't "Mario Kart." Ron Howard accomplished the impossible by making me love a film about a real life rivalry between F1 race drivers with a personality clash. I don't know why this movie never got an appreciation thread. I feel...

Series / movie?

I find it funny that whenever I'm watching one I'm yearning for the other. The series has a lot more content and scenes that draw it closer to the source material, the film's line-up in general is better (both are good in this respect) and it has more style. My brother thinks the series shows its age a bit.

The book is really worth a read. John le Carre really knew how to write technically a spy thriller that's really all about the characters rather than some convoluted "got to achieve X before Y happens" which in my experience is the staple of the genre.

Strongly disagree. I give Bosch season 6 an easy 9/10, the best season since the first and maybe the strongest overall. A masterclass of writing over special effects, the best show on TV at maintaining that many different storylines and keeping them all interesting. I'd like to give the Bosch showrunners a stab at reshooting Game of Thrones last two seasons, they would improve immensely.

The one caveat is you have to commit to really watching Bosch, especially this last season. There are a lot of separate threads that are difficult to follow if you're not paying close attention and details that only pay off later. It can't be on as background noise when you game, text or surf.

Movie. After watching the movie, I suspected that the book likely filled in many details that were glossed over in the film (the affair with smiley's wife Ann, we aren't really shown any depth there).

Narcos Mexico (Season 2): 7/10

After the hype from the original Narcos series about the cartels killing a DEA agent in the 1980s and the USA going after them so hard in blood that every single narco in the world got the message that the DEA is off limits, this was a disappointment.

Narcos Mexico Season 2 was about the aftermath following the murder of that Agent.
Bloodbath from USA justice not found.

The Wrong Missy - 7/10 - 90 minute David Spade movie on Netflix that was an entertaining movie and about exactly what I expected out of the movie. It had some funny parts and kept my attention.

History Buffs is great. I don't remember what he said about the movie but I actually enjoy Apocalypto.

I watched It Comes at Night (Netflix) this past weekend. I'll give it maybe 8/10 or so.

It was a little slower of a movie but I thought it was pretty well put together and acted. Pretty depressing though, lol.

I liked the scene in Rush when Hunt beats the crap out of the reporter.

In Ford v Ferrari I enjoyed the part when Ford Jr. asks what Enzo said about him and everyone is looking on in pure terror on what he was go to do.

Horrible subject matter (human trafficking), but with a powerful performance by Rachel Weisz.
Emotional gripping for me. Critics don't seem to be as impressed.

Many of the actors came back for Raising Hope, as different characters, but they never resolved any plots from Earl.
Raising Hope started off with a good premise, but devolved into standard sitcom crap by season 4.

unfortunately, they show more skin of Sandra Oh (who plays Eve) than the cute blond assassin.
