The movie does drag in some scenes but I thought it overall captured how hard Joy had to work to achieve success and she didn't give up when

Just finished watching S1 of Dark Matter on Netflix... 9/10 so far. If you haven't seen it, and are considering it... DO NOT READ ANY COMMENTS, REVIEW, OR NETFLIX SYNOPSIS. They give away SO much detail that is critical to the plot, and ruins the episode if you already know the information. Things like "this person dies" or "this person isn't who you think they are". Well, thank you for telling me the most critical moment of the entire episode (or season) ahead of time. It's much more entertaining that way.

Joy - 8.5/10

This is the movie females should be using as an example to look for a role model, not star wars. JLaw and BCoop had fantastic performances and Deniro provided the extra humor. Since I'm in the process of patenting something, I thought this movie was superb. If only we all had the cajones to take big risks like Joy did with her invention. Docking it some for the story because there were some "yeah right" moments like

letting her rival half sister be a part of the company and make important fiscal unilateral decisions without her, and her sneaking through a vent into the factory with the patent paperwork just sitting there waiting to be discovered.

But all in all a very solid flick for anyone who wants to improve society with a product they have created.

Agreed, Joy was great. I like David O Russel flicks in general, even though Silver Linings and this are a bit more mainstream, there is still a bit of dry, non-mainstream humor to these like in earlier DoR flicks. Also think Jennifer Lawrence's character here is a nice role model.

I liked Joy more than The Revanent--it actually had a story to tell, even though I do enjoy Revenge flicks.

Moonrise Kingdom - 9/10 - What a movie by Wes Anderson. Totally captured the innocence and drama that kids experience but in his own way. Also showed how kids without their parents' support (or there at all) can be impacted and that they'll seek attention in other ways. The cinematography was awesome as his films usually are, from vertical scrolling through the house to the lighting and music (like the storm). You really feel for these kids who get dealt some crappy problems like

Yeah, I had been waiting for Wes Anderson to finally put out another Royal Tennenbaums/Rushmore/Bottlerocket, and he finally did with Moonrise Kingdom. It was his best since those flicks, but then Grand Budapest came out more recently, which I think is his best film now. I still prefer Royal Tennenbaums, but GBH is just a brilliant piece of cinema.

Agreed. I love a comedy like Zoolander and Airplane! where they create a surreal world and then find the humor from living in that world instead of making humorless pop culture "parody" references. No. I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.

Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 8/10 - (Ben Stiller version) - not a remake or reimaging of the Danny Kaye classic, it's a completely different film loosely inspired by the short story. Funny, sweet, and with some amazing location photography. It's a good one to watch on blu-ray instead of low bitrate streaming.

Zoolander was incredibly funny and I'm kind of sentimental about it since people used to call me a certain name because of it at the time. Yes, I used to be a male model as a kid (print ads/commercials for clothing) so my buddies are never going to let me live that one down (even though my parents made me do it). But yeah, one of my favorite movies of all time so I'd give it a 10/10 since it reminds me of a few years of childhood and how dumb fashion is.

here is my argument: HotS shows people being just as miserable, poor and hurt as The Revenant does, except it does so IN COLOR!
Would the revenant really be worse if they tried to inject some life into it?

The story of the Essex Nantucket, whaling ship commandeered by the incompetent Cpt. Pollard, gets wrecked by the sea, and finally sunk by Moby Dick. The few survivors make they slow way back with the experienced First Mate Chase at the lead, through starvation and cannibalism, to port and to reveal the truth about their expedition and their captain, Pollard.

I enjoyed this overtly long film (yet varied enough to keep my attention), due to the multitude of colorful characters, the gorgeous settings (the ship is beautiful), the fairly solid acting, and good production.
The revenant tries some more fancy camerawork, while HotS keeps it simple, and is far friendlier to the audience than Leo's Bear Butt-Rape* film. The various changes of pace in HotS are also welcome, and while Revenant's constant increasing of tension is an acceptable way to tell a story, i found HotS's two hours to go by faster and more pleasantly. I find both films lacking in content.

I would recommend In The Heart Of The Sea to anyone who think they're in the mood for a "serious" film, but do not want to commit to something too intense, say, "Nightcrawler". It's also a fairly good documentary, and imho that's its biggest audience draw.
7/10, same as revenant, more fun, but less pain.

Spectre 4/10 This film actually made me mad because it was a god awful rubbish. How do you go from wholesome gritty Casino Royale to this cartoony piece of crap? I couldn't roll my eyes harder during that whole 'this is why I'm evil' speech cliche.

Also why did the entire complex blow up? What the fvck?

My folks were visiting me and together we wasted about 3 hours on this piece of trash film.

This movie was a flaming pile of crap. I fell asleep 3 times during it.

Too much talking and the two Xmen characters were out of place (Supersonic who? and she was a bit chubby too). Love the introduction slow motion sequence and there were some nice looking action scenes.

Kung Fu Panda 3 - 7/10. This movie is getting worse and worse. Not as charming and funny as the first one. Too much "chi" this and "chi" that, similar as The Matrix. Going downhill.

The first Spiderman was fantastic (first 2, actually).

Defoe and Molina were damn brilliant, and I thought Maguire was the perfect Peter Parker.

The two characters were forced into the movie IMO and only in two scenes (at the highway and at the ship yard). Even Dead Pool made a smart ass comment about how huge the mansion were but only two of them in there.

If you stay until after the credit is over, you would know who will be in the next Dead Pool.

I am no Xmen expert but this is the first time I hear/watch about the Supersonic girl.

That is because they took two different characters and combined them. Her name is Negasonic Teenage Warhead and in the comics she is neither a X-man nor has that exploding power, she is a telepath. The movie was written to have the X-man Cannonball, someone that has a lot more connection with Deadpool, in it but they decided they wanted a teenage goth girl for comedic effect, and they liked the name Negasonic Teenage Warhead. So, we get a mash-up character.

The joke is that the film had to avoided showing too many x-men because it would be expensive to get permission to use them, and then hire the big name actors required, so we get a nobody and a CGI character.

Deadpool does a lot of crossovers. He is always teaming up with, or fighting against (Deadpool is not always the hero) more famous characters, so much so that he suspects that sometimes he is not the main character of his own comic. It seems normal that a few of them would show up in his movie.

One thing it didn't really get into was how many roids he had to use to get that physique, but back then it was everywhere. Also liked seeing how he treated Louie (Ferrigno) like a little brother who would never beat him. Arnold had it all - work ethic, cocky/competitive attitude, willing to break the rules, and the elite genetics. All in all, while it's cool to see such crazy physiques I wonder if they will ever drug test for Mr.Olympia. There'd be some dropoff but poor kids are looking up to a lot of idiots like this. No reason to have a contest purely based on drugs and diet.

Prey - Esquire Network ?/10

This looks interesting. It's a 3 episode mini-series. There are 2 seasons though on ITV where the series orginated so I"m guessing that they're going to show all 6.

They're separate stories. In the first series, it looks like a version of the The Fugitive, if I'm remembering the name correctly. Man accused of killing his wife escapes and is on the run.

Not a unique story but still looks pretty good.
