so, i just found out there's a thing called CineWorld Card here, which is 16 quid (20 something bucks) per month (not a subscription, you can buy a month whenever you feel like) and it gives me free films for a month. In the theater. As many as i want.
(consider that normally, a film is 8 or 9 quid)
plus discounts on popcorn and other stuff. and if you own one for over 1 year, you get even more discounts + bonuses.
first victim was The Revenant,
i planned to watch 10 minutes while Deadpool started, but i wound up staying.
Ok, so .. the film is too long. After 1 1/2 hours, i couldn't sit anymore, and the grey tone of -everything- can get on your nerves after a while.
Of all the actors in the film, Leo was by far the worse. Not terrible, but everyone else was better than him.. also, the part is severely limited in scope, due to most of his dialogue being grunts and screams. He ain't winnin no oscar with this.
The cinematography was impressive; that opening scene is worth the ticket money on its own, and probably the best part of the whole film.
Actually, i felt that, when the film uses the landscape to tell the story, that's when it is at its best. I loved the scenery and i thought "geez, it must really be shit to live in that place at that time" more than once.
I'm still kinda buzzed from the initial impact, but i'll give a haphazard vote: 7/10
I feel that, if this film had been done in a less serious way, focusing more on the storytelling and less on the realism, it would have been better.
next in line, Deadpool and one of these: Grimsby, Triple9, or Zoolander 2.

I really want to see Triple 9; I love John Hillcoat. The lack of any real lead up to it and the February dump off has me a bit worried though.

My favorite thing about it was the sound design
The no sound in space thing happens through the entire movie, but that part was the coolest.
The part that got a point docked was the very ending. Not a bad ending, but a little forced IMO.

When bad Dr guy on the ice planet docks, and then opens the airlock, everything goes silent. That was incredible. And then they re-pressurize the station, all the alarms come back.

Yeah. The movie was amazing. Especially the docking sequence after the big twist. The Hans Zimmer score was massively epic right there.
The ending hurts the film.

Yep also loved Interstellar. It actually makes you think about Intelligent Design and how our creator(s) may have left clues but we just haven't found them yet. As we uncover more into quantum physics, it would be badass if clues were left in that format to guarantee we had reached certain levels of technology first.

This is the movie females should be using as an example to look for a role model, not star wars. JLaw and BCoop had fantastic performances and Deniro provided the extra humor. Since I'm in the process of patenting something, I thought this movie was superb. If only we all had the cajones to take big risks like Joy did with her invention. Docking it some for the story because there were some "yeah right" moments like
But all in all a very solid flick for anyone who wants to improve society with a product they have created.

letting her rival half sister be a part of the company and make important fiscal unilateral decisions without her, and her sneaking through a vent into the factory with the patent paperwork just sitting there waiting to be discovered.

I'm skipping Joy because I freaking loathed Silver Linings Playbook and Joy looks like the same movie. Not a huge David O'Russell or JLaw fan either.

Spectre 4/10 This film actually made me mad because it was a god awful rubbish. How do you go from wholesome gritty Casino Royale to this cartoony piece of crap? I couldn't roll my eyes harder during that whole 'this is why I'm evil' speech cliche.

Had been thinking of watching that myself, but from a lot reviews I've seen really doesn't seem worth it.
Probably won't bother now. I have watched the opening scene, but even Honest Trailers stated that was the best thing about the movie I guess.

Take Shelter - 6/10 It was a really good character drama that focuses on mental illness. As much as I enjoyed that aspect of it, it was sllllooooowwwwww. Well worth watching though if that sounds interesting to you.

ok .. that was a bit ridiculous. i guess they just wanted to wrap the whole thing up.
still, i liked the film. imho classic Bond stuff.

Moonrise Kingdom - 9/10 - What a movie by Wes Anderson. Totally captured the innocence and drama that kids experience but in his own way. Also showed how kids without their parents' support (or there at all) can be impacted and that they'll seek attention in other ways. The cinematography was awesome as his films usually are, from vertical scrolling through the house to the lighting and music (like the storm). You really feel for these kids who get dealt some crappy problems like

I also liked this one.
Not a hipster, but I love Wes Anderson movies. The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of my favorites.
Finally watched The Fantastic Mr. Fox the other day on Blu-ray disc. 8.5/10 Whimsical. Marvelous. Charming. Excellent.
Watched Ex Machina on Blu-ray even more recently. 8/10 Thought provoking.
