End of Watch made no sense. Was it supposed to be a "found footage" or a hybrid of some kind? Because there were random scenes where all of a sudden some magic ghost is holding the camera for Jake Gyllenhall

yeah end of watch was bad. i just think it was advertised as being something totally different than what it is, and that is what pissed me off about that movie.

i watched quite a few movies this weekend...

life of pi (3d version) - 4.5/5 - my wife and i really enjoyed this movie. it truly is a pretty neat visual treat. while a lot of the time was spent out at sea, i was always interested in what would happen next and how the voyage would end. i read afterwards that the tiger was entirely cgi which truly is impressive. all around good movie with a neat story. also, the intro with all of the animals at the zoo was really nice as well. i don't really see why this was compared to the visuals of avatar, though, not even close imo.

art of flight - 5/5 - i have had this since i got my home theater setup and had watched the intro of it like 5x or so, but i had never watched the entire movie. man the cinematography is AWESOME in this movie. i now see why it is used as a benchmark for visuals (and audio) among the ht people. i was trying to hold out to watch it until i got my surround speakers, but i ran out of things to watched so i sat down and watched it.

seal team six - 4/5 - really thought this was going to suck being a budget type of movie and just trying to milk zero dark thirty's success (if you call it that), but i actually enjoyed it. i liked the 'fake documentary' style that it had throughout it. i also like how some of the scenes were filmed.

baytown outlaws - 4/5 - saw this at redbox with eva longoria and billy bob thorton on the cover so i imdb'ed it and it had decent reviews, so i grabbed it. although they are both hardly really even in the movie (but thorton is his normal cussing funny self), it was a really entertaining movie. really over the top at times, but it never really tries to be serious. the 3 brothers did a great job playing 3 rednecks and had good chemistry. entertaining for sure.

my hobbit 3d bluray comes tomorrow and i'm excited about watching it as i never got around to seeing it in the theater.

I saw Stoker on the weekend. I would give it a 9/10. This is the English language debut for Park Chan-Wook (Oldboy, Thirst) and is kind of a remake of Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt. An amazing film to look at and while some may find it a little too weird, I thought it was awesome and a lot of very dark fun.

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013): 5/10

The beginning is pretty lousy. They don't use up the whole screen but have a square aspect ration in black and white. The middle has some funny parts. Towards the end it gets downright terrible. It has bad acting, a bad plot, the bad witch looks ridiculously stupid, and the movie overly relies on 3D gimmickry like spears flying through the screen throughout the whole thing. This might be a decent kids movie but honestly it's one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. I'm tempted to give it a worse score since it bored me so.

yeah i'm not that big into LOTR in general so i won't even bother with the extended edition or anything. haven't seen the LOTR ones and don't really plan on it.

i mean i like them but just not a nut about em or anything.

Game of Thrones Seasons 1 and 2 (Blu-Ray) 8.5/10
Good entertainment. I've even re-watched some episodes and enjoyed them thoroughly. Extremely well-crafted considering how complex the story is.

The numerous and frequent fully-nude sex scenes, though...they cause me anxiety because I worry that other people will think I'm watching porn.

IP Man - 9/10

Not a whole lot to complain about here really. I thought it was well acted, nicely filmed with some nice music, and overall a pretty interesting story. It is probably the first Chinese film that I've watched and truly enjoyed. It is a martial arts film, and while there is some pretty good action in it that is not the whole focus of the film. As in action plays a supporting role, it's still important mind you, but not constant which the 2nd film decided to do. The story is supposedly a true one. The setting finds you in the time period of 1920's to 1940's era, so quite a lot to show, and in Chinese so subtitles will have to be read for most. Overall an excellent film and I think a fair number here will enjoy it. However I don't think the netflix plot summary did a good job of explaining it.

If you liked the first one you might enjoy the 2nd one as well. It starts up immediately after the first, however it's pretty much all action driven, which while good it seems to lose some of the focus the first one had. I'd probably say 7/10 for IP man 2.

I think its top 10 greatest action movies of all time.

i just watched all of the extras on the life of pi 3d combo pack. the extras on the 3d disc that were in 3d had really no reason to be in 3d, other than the deleted scenes, which you can pick 2d or 3d on. but the other 2 "3d" special features were nothing special BECAUSE of the 3d.

however the extras were pretty awesome. it's amazing what goes into making movies and how it all comes together. it's also crazy to think that the kid who played pi had never even considered acting and he was actually picked out randomly when he was waiting for his brother who was actually auditioning for the part. that kid is going to have a lot of success imo.

recently watched the latest Die Hard I must say it sucks compared to the original and 2nd one

I think that movie has reached a dead end

Can't wait till Fast and the Furious 6 is released though

Zero Dark Thirty, 7/10: pretty forgettable movie. The actress was great, I actually wasn't too excited about her for the part but she changed my mind. But the film sort of wanders, it has a great story but for example the SEAL operation just seems tacked on. We have no emotional connection to any of the people in the group. The only person we really give a shit about (the girl) is absent the last 30 minutes of the movie

Just seen Olympus Has Fallen. 8/10. It's action packed and if you hate the North Koreans as much as I do you'll love this movie.

Just kill me now. A screaming mess of amateur hour that couldn't be more brain-atrophying.

The Croods - went with my niece, nephew, sister, and father.

It was ok, very predictable.
First time I saw a movie in 3d, also last movie I will see in 3d. They did not design those glasses with people who already wear regular prescription glasses in mind.
Felt like they were going to fall off the whole time and was uncomfortable. Also didn't add anything to the experience imo.

Prometheus - I didn't realize this was like a prequel to Alien. It was kind of meh and a lot like the Alien movie. I was wondering if this was a remake of Alien in how similar it seemed.
Wasn't that great imo and I seemed to miss stuff, but that might be due to the fact that my dog kept bugging me and barking while I was trying to watch so I was distracted.

Baby Love - 5/10

A B-movie time capsule, poorly preserved--and seen today, silly. No movie today would get by treating women as so hysterical and clingy (they'd be passive-aggressive and codependent, feigning independent action, in otherwise the same role, to be culturally acceptable :)), nor older pervs as normal. A movie today wouldn't have to hint and such at what's going on, "behind the curtain," so to speak, either. It's kind of disappointing overall, but I'm sure it was boundary-pushing at the time, especially with its lack of overt moralization (something Hollywood is only OK with if it involves violence), and her new boyfriend being the only one in the story with solid morals.

As a silly sleazy B-movie, it's quite watchable, and interesting for how poorly it's aged, if nothing else, but it is also forgettable. Were it not for Linda Hayden, Diana Dors, and Ann Lynn being in it, it would probably be just another 60s movie littering vaults, somewhere.

Toy Story 3 was the first movie I saw in 3D, and it will also be the last. I don't wear prescription glasses, and I still thought the experience was miserable. I can't wait for this stupid fad to be over.

Argo 9/10 - awesome movie, hard to be critical. Maybe a bit jumpy with the editing at times. But great acting all around, great story, visually very well put together as well.

Also between this and Zero Dark Thirty.. anyone else noticing the return of smoking in movies? It seems like we went through a phased where they stopped giving everyone cigarettes. Both of these movies everyone was a chain smoker (and smoking indoors.. I'm not sure if they actually do that in Pakistan much less the U.S. embassy)
