Rick & Morty Season 3, Episode 2 FINALLY

top quality writing as always 8.5/10
Episode 1 was great but I didn't like episode 2 very much

and on the other hand, Ozark is just lame

I can recommend Message From The King on Netflix

I havent watched it yet, but apparently theres a TV show called The Middle. It has Neil Flynn and Patricia Heaton, yet for some reason I never heard about it until today. They've been running for a very long time and have 192 episodes so far.

I will watch it and let you bastards know what I think.

following a recommendation,

Message From The King
- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1712192/reference

see, i want to show this film to Schwartzenegger and his atrocious Aftermath to show him THIS is how you do grief.

Anyway, classic revenge film a'la' Old Boy, although with a different visual style. Plenty of great camera work, great use of supporting characters, excellent casting. The story is unremarkable but the execution is excellent, although many points are quite predictable. The antagonist is very cookie-cutter and while the pacing is fine, the film could have been made shorter and snappier.

Would recommend to anyone studying filmmaking; good use of limited budget, good soundtrack, good everything.

8/10 - if you are a film student, or else
7/10 - well done but doesn't try to add to the genre.

Alien Covenant - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2316204/reviews

garbage.

not as laughably bad as the star wars prequels, but wrong on so many aspects.

1. aliens can now spawn from SPORES. not sure why they need a enormous cocoon when the spores are far more effective.

truth be told, as the film veers from classic Alien to The Black Goo saga, where the goo is unobtanium and can do anything, you could feasibly explain why spores = aliens, if you chose to ignore how unrelatable this is. It turns the "hunted by a ferocious beast" film into your typical zombie/disease film.

2. CGI like it 1999.

this is really unforgivable. you know that CGI that POPS out and is absolutely obvious? yes, they have that stuff alongside spaceship models that would make you drool.

3. idiotic characters AGAIN

the story, although very much not-alien, isn't too stupid, but once again it uses "this spacefaring crewman is a moron" as a plot device.

i'm gonna take a break to say that a couple things were really great, for example, the very last scene is majestic and possibly the best scene Scott has ever filmed. but then again, you remind yourself that the first scene in the film is horrible and you question if artistic freedom actually ever produces good films. There is outstanding production side by side with some of the worst ideas ever put on film.

but the real tragedy is that Scott once again fails to show the story from the point of view of characters we can relate to; instead he goes for the abstract and occasionally only focuses on the action, as if this was a bad soldiers-shoot-monsters film.

5/10 bad and emotionally confusing .. you want it to be good, and then some CGI crap or idiotic script scene comes along and ruins the feeling.
I watched it again the other night and feel pretty much the same. As a fan of the franchise, I absolutely hate the direction this movie went. While Prometheus was not exactly a great movie, at least it went in a different direction and did something different. Scott completely missed the mark with what people hated about Prometheus. I don't know who he was listening to, but it wasn't the internet.

That being said. I don't hate the movie upon second viewing. If you remove the 'this is an alien franchise' movie, there is some good stuff in there. The space scenes at the beginning are great. The David/Walter stuff is great (but ruined by the absolute stupidity of the crew).

I actually like the neomorph although it seems to usurp the whole point of the xenomorph (and David's work). To me the neomorph seemed way more dangerous and hardy than the normal xenomorph.

Comrade Detective ?/? - on Amazon Prime

This is a strange show. Even stranger that it made it to Amazon. It's a 1980's buddy cop serial from Cold War Romania. That should be enough to at least make you curious. It's dubbed and all of the background sound is obviously done on a Foley sound stage so you have to be somewhat tolerant of the presentation.

This was produced to reinforce Socialist values but there are some comical aspects. For example Americans are portrayed the way we used to portray communists, sort of. In this story, we're the bad guys. The women are all sluts and everyone is greedy and deceptive. Think Miami vice in Bucharest.

One part I thought was especially interesting was the fact that the main character talks about the CIA using cocaine to subjugate the blacks in the US. Which wasn't far from the truth if you think about the Iran-Contra debacle.

I'm not sure I'm going to watch the rest of it because after the initial novelty wears off, I'm not sure it's worth the investment but maybe someone here will check it out and report back. It's only 6 episodes and apparently there were commercials in Romania at the time since the first episode is only 43 minutes long.

3% 8/10 Brazilian show by the cinematographer of City of God on Netflix. World is devided into the haves and the have nots. Each year there is a selection process to admit candidates into the rich part. Only top 3% of the candidates are picked up.
Very good thriller drama. Too short, can't wait for season 2.
Huh, interesting. I think I will look this one up. If anyone was wondering, the series is named "3%" (oddly enough).

Scott completely missed the mark with what people hated about Prometheus. I don't know who he was listening to, but it wasn't the internet.
I'm not sure that's such a bad thing. OH SNAP

Message from the King 8 out of 10. It was pretty cool very violent but action-packed. The plot was a little derivative but I like that ending.

Fate of the Furious - 7/10 - probably one of my less favorite F&F movies. It was completely over the top as expected, but I'm just not a fan of how the movie isn't even about cars or racing anymore. All of that stuff is pretty much just in the background now. It was still fun to watch though. It felt a bit too long too.

Huh, that bad hey? I'm a bit surprised at the universal acclaim for the movie but I haven't seen it yet. I will when it's available for rent on Google Play Movies.

Huh, that bad hey?
ok, let me explain.

WONDER WOMAN
i used to love this show. me, with all the testosterone of a young kid, loved this weird chick who would spin and twirl and then KICK ASS. I didn't care that she was a woman, i cared that she was a Badass For Justice (tm).

The formula of success in this show .. and the others like it, which were the six million dollar man, the bionic woman, and maybe charlie's angels, was that NORMAL PERSON CHARACTER A can use their power and kick some butt. They needed some excuse so they made her an amazon but she was deep down that all-american girl everyone would love to have living next door.

It's not a morally profound show. It's just this girl, looking around, finding some guy who is Bad (tm), changing in Sayan mode and punching the bad guys.

Ok, the new wonder woman is .. spoilers below.

45 minutes of prologue. Do you know the bit at the very beginning of 300, where they show king Leonidas train his son? Make it that, but 45 minutes long. Absolutely irrelevant to A) plot B) character.
Then we are finally introduced to adult Wonder Woman, who has .. i'm totally being serious now, the worst accent i have ever heard. Bu`t, you know what, that puts me off but let's not dwell on that, it's a limitation of the actress, not of the film.
THEN we have another 30 or so minutes of basically the guy from The Mummy very slowly saying "we need to do exposition now because you need a reason to hate the nazis".
Then we get a 5 minute fight scene which is basically 90% of the trailer, which would be cool if the character had not already been painted as invincible and ridiculously over-the-top superhuman and we never fear any harm could come to them and therefore there is zero tension. remember Achilles from Troy? (Brad Pitt) Looking back, that film makes him far more realistic than WW does.

Then .. we get a horribly CGI scene with .. omg .. i genuinely thought "ooh, this is a SUPERHERO movie", as in "i shouldn't expect anything less than flying sharks with lasers for eyes".

Wonder Woman is a horribly mediocre, badly acted, pace-less film whcih is crammed full of "we need this bit here" commercial crap that almost forbids you from thinking, and the FULL HOUR of this shit that you have to put up with merely serves to justify two horrible combat scenes devoid of any emotional investment.

Compared to WW, any Captain America film is a masterpiece. Captain American has some character development, some emotional investment, we could even care about the character. I'm not talking genius work like Iron Man, but just some C.A. would be WAY better than WW.

Oh yeah there's also a non-sex sex scene crammed in there because the character wasn't too obviously prefabricated.

i'm done.

Rented King Arthur: Legend of the Sword from Google Play Movies this weekend (love that I can do that from my TV; hey I'm a late comer to smart TVs haha). I'll give it 7/10. I actually ended up enjoying it decently even though a couples times during the movie, more towards the start, I was like "WTF is going on here?" I also remember thinking something plot-wise was really stupid but now I can't recall what it was. It ended up being better than I thought it was gonna be and there were a lot of uniquely-filmed shots in it. Good soundtrack.

The Promise 7.5/10. Really well done film about the Armenian Genocide. It didn't take too much creative embellishments regarding the historical backdrop. Good acting, beautiful filming locations. Only bummer was the love triangle thrown in there.

KING ARTHUR DAWG ! - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1972591/reference

oh wow so much contrasting emotions.

So, it's a Guy Ritchie film. Well, "film", it's a film-like thing.
Set in ... oh god .. set in some sort of very confused middle-ages england .. with magical monsters. Oh and king arthur. There's plenty of sexy ladies hanging around and everyone has that gangster accent from london. There's vikings and kung fu. Mountain-sized magical elephants that shoot fireballs.

Think The Great Wall, but even less historically accurate.

So, south-london-born King Arthur is a scoundrel who runs a protection racket. He was abandoned as a child after his dad the true king was murdered by the bad guy. For some reason David Beckham has him (yes, david beckham the football guy) draw The Sword from the stone and when he does, the Bad Guy(tm) immediately proceeds to piss him off by killing his girlfriend and trying to have him executed. Aw shiet dawg, IT IS ON!

So arthur like, escapes and stuff, and immediately scores a new GF much skinnier and sexier than the one before. Aaand i think they got confused with Robin Hood here because he goes into hiding in the woods and basically joins up with a band of merry men, where they use magic to send him on a quest, erm .. something like Luke's test on Dagobah, with giant animals .. Yoda's part is played by some discount Samule L Jackson clone.

Ok well you get the drift.

It's a totally unrealistic fantasy film where the script is drunk and running naked in a store high on acid.

So, gorgeous production, fairlry solid acting, insane direction typical of Guy Ritchie, nice effects, i gotta say, if i was 15yo i would LOVE this film. It's got a lot of random bullshit in it but it's the immortal story of the sword in the stone and some things in this film are actually pretty clever. The lead is a bit wooden and the bad guy is horrible, but they have little dialogue, with most of the work being done by the supporting actors.
If you are not offended by a retelling that takes more inspiration from Hellboy than from the original fable, then you will enjoy this film. if you are a stick in the mud, then you will find this film offensive and you should go watch Excalibur (1981) instead.

my rating: 7/10 - it's bad and good at the same time.
He made The Man from U.N.C.L.E remake. It got panned by critics, but I loved every second of it.
I'll have to watch King Arthur now.
