If you need a guide.... You're just not experienced enough.... There are so many problems that can happen that a guide won't help you with.

i already built my 1st, but that was a few years ago with the p4 northwood...some technology has changed, but id like to have something to refer to if i happen to have a problem

Like I said... If you built a computer in 1997, you should be able to build one now.. There isn't much of a difference between computers of now and 1997, let alone 2004, hell they use the same memory...

i guess ur right - just a lil nervous about a few things..like gettings the ports in front of the case working-which i havent had to do before

just some jitters i guess

Jitters about LEDs working? Hell, what you should be worried about is hooking up the FDD power cable incorrectly, or ram not fully inserted etc which can and WILL lead to a fire..

Some cases come with schematics for front USB connections to mobo. Lian-Li has them.

If you're planning to build a gaming/video editor/graphic/business rig; they basically the same. Differences are mobos, hdds, RAM, video cards and CPU and a bunches of things.

Mechbgon's computer build still works and if you putting together some components for whatever (what's is going be used for).
Then list it again on AT for feedback.

You can read the threads and if you have a budget, it helps.

Good building.....

Unless the new system uses DDR2.

@OP: PC Mechanic has the most-requently-referenced (though somewhat old) guide on the topic. A few things here and there might be out-of-date, but the majority is still quite useful.

The biggest part of building a system without a lot of headaches (I dare not say without any headaches) is buying the right parts. Forums like this one are a very good way to make sure you're not buying a poison pill.
