List of Pci-e 2.0 video cards compatible with 1.0 and 1.0a slots on motherboards

I bought an evga 8800 GS and it black screens with the msi k8ngm2 motherboard in windows, but.. does work in dos and linux..

I have read that others have experienced some difficulty with this so.. if any of you can share on the new cards that you have tried that work or don't in windows with the older pci-e 1.0 spec slots, that would be a help.

My 3870 works on my pci-e 1.0 Radeon Express 200 chipset motherboard (RS482)

HD3850 works with Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA (VIA chipset) board.

GT8800 works with the same board using NVIDIA BIOS 62.92.23.xx.xx or better.

HD 3870 works in my abit ab9 quad gt (P965 chipset), 1.0a slot, windows xp pro and vista ultimate 64.

Anyone know if the GeForce 9600 GT is compatible with motherboards like the 4CoreDual-SATA2/4CoreDual-VSTA/775Dual-VSTA? I know that there were issues with 8800 GTs on these boards and the only work around was to flash the BIOS to a GEN1-compatible BIOS.

I ask, because my brother wants to upgrade his video card and the 9600 GT seems like a great choice, but he has a 4CoreDual-SATA2 motherboard.

3870 works fine on Asrock 939 Dual Sata 2.

8800gts 512 is ok on the Asus A8N Sli Deluxe.
