i thought Netbooks just used Atoms and it was just a speed difference.
ie: 1.3ghz vs 1.6ghz

but there are diff Atom architectures?
a 1.3ghz atom might be faster than a 1.6ghz?!

and then there's the Celeron 900?

and the latest is Celeron Processor 743 (1.3GHz/800MHz FSB/1MB cache)?

Is there a List of common Netbook CPUs?
And how do they compare to each other?

Don't forget about the Via Nano. Also the new AMD Nile platform with Geneva CPU's.

In power
Atom < Nano < AMD Neo < Geneva
Atom dual core < Nano dual core < AMD Neo X2 (based on Athlon 64) < AMD Geneva X2 (based on Athlon II)

Neo are used in portable with 12-13". Geneva goes for 10" and above.

Those clock numbers mean jack. My overclocked 2.2 GHZ N270 on CPU benchmarks is almost exactly equal to the 1.3 single core celeron.

http://processorfinder.intel.com/ lists 17 Atom variants. Four of them are for desktops and not normally intended for netbooks (though the 330 dual core has found its way into ION netbooks). I think some of the slower ones under 1.3GHz might be for MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices) because the slowest Atom netbook I've seen was 1.3GHz.

The 2GHz model is interesting because I don't recall ever seeing it in a netbook, nettop or mini ITX mobo.

I'm wondering if any company will put the D510 into a netbook as it is the only other dual core available, but should use less power than a 330 (due to chipset).

when are they going to upgrade the netbook chips? by now everyone has a couple slow netbooks so youd think theyd have to come out with faster chips at some point to keep netbook sales going. also why dont they sell 1300x768 screens with linux netbooks. youd think that would push some people to get linux over xp (ans: because everyone would buy them and turn around and install xp on them??)

that looks totally cool but bumping to a dual core makes it 669

I think the biggest upgrade, over a CPU upgrade, whould be to get a better SSD. Both my Netbooks (both with the Celeron 900mhz) are way slow due to the crap SSD Asus decided to install. Keep in mind this is with 2gb of ram installed in each.

Would be cool to have a dual core netbook though... hmmm

when are they going to upgrade the netbook chips?

I have a theory on that:

Once you mess with overclocking the Atom for a while you get the feeling that it could run at much higher speeds than it does safely. At around 2GHZ my N270 doesn't even break a sweat.

But Intel refuses to sell 2+GHZ Atoms, and I think a big reason is that it would cannibalize real notebook sales.

The whole point of a netbook is to be "enough, but just enough." The platform seems designed to push you to want more, which in the long run means a bigger purchase (like a real i3 chip) from Intel on your next laptop (the one you get because the netbook is too slow).
