Little Green Heron

I wish I could take amazing pictures like this!

Ok maybe it's not as amazing as I first thought, doesn't the green algae look fake/weird/washed out in this swan pic?

Corrected pic link thanks to notfred and BigSmooth :)

That's mine:) Both were taken with the EOS D60, with a 100-400mm L IS lens and a 1.4X teleconverter.

The green stuff is duckweed. It's actually a vascular plant that grows little thali on top of the water. If the water has been very still the top surface can actually dry out, and it gives the wierd look you noticed. I didn't do anything to make it look like that. A polorizer might have changed it, but I didn't think it would matter.

Glad you like the shots!

LOL

I didn't know it was yours, I really like the first pic.

Do you plan on installing any sort of gallery software on your new web site?

I haven't decided yet. I'll have to play around with it and see what I like.

That's a fantastic picture, have you had any formal (classes, etc) training or have you just practiced a whole lot?

That EO6-D60 isn't all that expensive for a 6mp DSLR either. Was that originally a 6mp shot you cropped/shrunk down?

I've never had any classes or anything. I've just spent my whole life looking at stuff in nature, and when i got into photography it just sort of clicked.

The D60 has a 6.3MP sensor. The little green heron was slightly cropped and resized, the swans were considerably cropped and resized. The heron was cool and let me get pretty close. The swans were out in the middle of a lake and even with my 400mm lens with a 1.4x teleconverter I just couldn't get close enough.

Glad you like it.

Great pics, but you know what would be even better? A movie of lirion mucking around in a swamp, on hands and knees looking under rocks and logs for bugs and fungi... from a bug's eye view!

LOL, now that's scary:Q But what's scarier is that I just invested in this, and if I start getting into birds the glass I'll need is twice the size of that one:Q I better not go there.
