This from a PM Lirion sent to me.

Please help if you can :D

"I was plugging in another hard drive this morning and when I got done my mouse didn't work. This computer eats mice sometimes, so I plugged in another one. The mouse stays powered on until I hit the power button on the computer and then it turns off. I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary in BIOS. I booted into safemode and still no go. It turns off as soon as I press the power button. I tried to reinstall the driver, but I need a mouse to check the box for the EULA; how ironic is that? I couldn't tab to the start a new thread button so I can't even ask myself. My screen is starting to fill up with dialog boxces that I can't tab to to close, and there are probably some typos in this message because the window is hanging off the edge of the screen and I don't know how to move it without the mouse. I'm dying here

Oh yeah, I did try removing the other hard drive, no go. This must be the first time something like this has happened in the history of the world because I can't find anything ion Google"

Ok, guys here is your chance to help out in a good cause!

So what is the QUESTION?

After reading, sounds like it is a USB or OPTICAL mouse.
Did he UNINSTALL the OLD mouse driver before installing the NEW?

Also, for every mouse function, there is a Keyboard combo that does
the same function (ALT+F4 = close current windows, etc.).

May I suggest learning the keyboard shortcuts to Windows'? They can be rather invaluable in times like these. The other suggestion is to navigate to the Control Panel, Accessability Options, and enable "MouseKeys". You can then use the numeric keypad on the keyboard to control the mouse. It takes a little getting used to, but is a workable alternative in a pinch, when you don't have a working mouse. Most Windows' built-in features and apps have proper keyboard navigation, but a disturbing number of 3rd-party apps will only work properly with a mouse, I've found. :(

I'm not sure why the computer is "eating mice" either, it sounds like some of your hardware might be defective if it is causing newly-installed hardware to subsequently fail like that.

Also just to add that when a checkbox apperas, if you tab your way trough to it, the spcae bar will check (or uncheck it as the case may be).

Yes, windows shortcuts can be real handy at times.
