Not necessary. Water cooling is what overclocking and modding enthusiasts do. And I mean proper enthusiasts; you can still overclock quite well on air. And this has nothing to do with gaming in particular
Nobody NEEDS water cooling. However, if you like to run high clocks on your hardware 24/7 and you're annoyed by loud fans, or if you just prefer a silent system, water cooling can be a solution.
its like adding a stage 3 turbo + a super large intercooler for a city driving car.
Is it needed? only if u like going 0-100 each stop light..
It does however extend hardware life (if your not overclocking voltage like a mad man), due to the components running cooler, hence extending the life.
However it will invalidate some warrenties.
