Hey guys, how do you know if you need to liquid cool a gaming system? and whether it is really necessary?

Not necessary. Water cooling is what overclocking and modding enthusiasts do. And I mean proper enthusiasts; you can still overclock quite well on air. And this has nothing to do with gaming in particular

Not necessary, but it sure is fun to have one :D

Nobody NEEDS water cooling. However, if you like to run high clocks on your hardware 24/7 and you're annoyed by loud fans, or if you just prefer a silent system, water cooling can be a solution.

Exactly, no need at all for it unless your gonna be cranking up voltages a lot and producing more heat.

no... its not needed...

its like adding a stage 3 turbo + a super large intercooler for a city driving car.

Is it needed? only if u like going 0-100 each stop light..

It does however extend hardware life (if your not overclocking voltage like a mad man), due to the components running cooler, hence extending the life.
However it will invalidate some warrenties.
