Liquid cooling: newbie questions

Hey all. I was looking at the Thermaltake CL-W0005 for my P4 1.6a. Right now it's running at 2.54 with the OEM HS/fan and the new case I bought allows for a much better airflow and things are running better than ever.

However, I think my GPU fan is dying and instead of buying a 3rd party GPU hs/fan, I was toying with the idea of watercooling both CPU and GPU. I know there are systems out there that allow you to watercool multiple parts on the same watercooling system.

The more I toy with the idea of adding individual additional cooling components to the system, the more I think about things like HDDs as well. Would I be totall off in thinking that a low-budget (yet efficient) watercooling system exists that will cool the CPU, GPU, and HDD at the same time?

Should I just buy a fan cooler for the HDD and mount it in one of the 5.25" bays that are free, getting just another hs/fan for the GPU, and just go with watercooling for the CPU?

Now that I bought this new spiffy case, all kinds of upgrade ideas are popping into my head. Is liquid cooling unnecessary for 2.6GHz? Is liquid cooling only really necessary for multiple CPUs or environments where noise is an issue?

That's another thing... the case fans on this beyotch are annoyingly loud. It's not something that I absolutely MUST fix or I'm going to throw the case out the window, but I would much enjoy a more quiet environment at home.

Feedback please?

hey nik

IMHO, liquid cooling would just be a pita for you unless you are up for tinkering around. If you are eager "to try something new" then it could be a fun investment.

If you just want things quiet without much time invested, I would suggest just buying new case fans. The following are the best price/quiet/performance you can get.

For your 80mm fan needs:

For your 92mm fan needs:

For your 120mm fan needs:

GPU, a zalman flower cooler would be good (and quiet) assuming it fits (check out the compatibility list)

Good luck!
