So whats the deal football fans? I'm not a Detroit Lions fan so I have to admit I haven't really folllowed them that close. But, you would have to be a complete recluse to not know about the heat he has recieved while playing in Detroit. So..whats the deal. If he is really that bad, is his carrer over with his release? Or, was he a victim of a poor system that didn't give him a chance to develop properly? Is he destined to sell popcorn and beer in the cheap seats or does he get another shot?

Somebody somewhere is bound to give him a shot. There are 32 teams and not enough quality QBs to fill every starting position.

I'm not saying that Harrington is a quality QB but someone is going to be willing to take the chance that he can develop into one or fill in as a backup.

Harrington will probably go down as one of the more polarizing QB's in Lions history. Personally I hated him. He'll probably get a shot as a backup

Collins is available and I wouldn't be surprised if Aaron Brooks was in the mix somewhere. That or they may just wait to pick up a QB in the draft since they just got a serviceable QB in Kitna.

Oakland is need of a QB too.

didnt they already sign kitna, bengals backup QB? he really is a solid player when he gets his chances to start. unless he went with another team that im confusing.

he'll get a shot somewhere else, but i think he'll have to earn his chance to start again

Yea, he's the reason the Lions suck.

Detroit really gave him a good chance to prove he could be a good QB and he wasn't successful. Maybe their O-line wasn't so good, but still, he had a pretty good chance to try and prove himself.

He will get a job as a back up, not a starter. EVER. What I dont understand is why anyone thinks he is good

Quarterbacks are almost never done. Even Ryan Leaf might get a shot by a really desperate team. He'll wind up singing on somewhere as a 3rd string emergency QB for maybe $100,000 a year and incentives.

lions have kitna and mccown to compete for the job and wouldnt be surprised if they draft one for the future, although not in the first round where they will have to pick up a WR

I *was* a Lions season ticket holder, and while Harrington was never particularly impressive, the team's failures went far beyond his play. Their running game is attrocious (both because of the O-Line, and the playcalling), their receivers dropped way too many balls and cut off routes, and the playcalling itself was ridiculous (I can't tell you how many times they called a 3 yard pass play on 3rd and 5, it made no sense).

I don't think Harrington could succeed here anymore, so its best for everyone that he's gone. But given the right environment, I think he absolutely has the tools and the mindset to succeed. One thing you could never question about him was his desire to win.

Plus, he's always seemed like a good guy, so personally I'll wish him success wherever he winds up.
