Lions name Mariucci as head coach

Mariucci is doomed. I don't see why any coach would want to go to detroit. I guess if he can turn this organization around he is a pure genius, and San Fran will be kicking itself for letting him go.

Being a Packers fan, this really sucks. He was Favre's mentor for a long time. I was kind of hoping he would come to GB as an offensive coordinator. Oh well....

It will be interesting watching to see what develops.

Good! He deserves better than what the 49ers did to him. Why the heck didn't they let him coach his final year? Who the heck do they think their gonna get for a head coach now? Dave Campo?

And for those who blame the playoff destruction for his firing, how was he supposed to stop his entire secondary from getting injured?

*sigh* Poor Lions.

Wayne Fontes was the uncle of a kid in our high school, and he was ragged on all the time...

I did sell Barry Sanders a bag of popcorn at an AHS basketball game, though. It was part of a fund-raiser for Physics and Astronomy club... he was a tiny little man (5'6", 5'7" or so).

Peace,
Dezign

I am a packers fan also would be nice to have a little challenge when we go play Detroit 😉

He's screwed.
He's stuck with an owner that won't spend money on the team and a GM who took a few too many shots to the nogin in his playing days.
He must love a challenge. Revenge would be sweet though. Bring the Lions back from obscurity and kick the niners ass on occasion for good measure.

I pray that he can make a difference. But, as a Lions fan, I have to be pessimistic. Mariucci is different. Hopefully he can help turn this damn franchise around.

ditto

I hope the Mooch is exposed in Detroit as an average/subpar coach who has a very conservative offense (2nd and 10 is ALWAYS a running play) and a flair for messed-up draft picks. He picked Jim Druckenmiller (over Jake Plummer), RW McQuarters, Reggie McGrew, Mike Rumph, and an Arena football team's worth of other bad selections.
I don't miss him one bit. The man has not won anything (not even in college) and now he is the second highest paid coach in the NFL. Whatever. I am looking forwards to watching him lose lose lose each Sunday.

No. Rochester Adams High School in Rochester Hills, MI. And then the University of Michigan.

Mooch will do a good job, dunno about his defenseive skills just yet though, most of his players were injured on D in SF which I think really tore his chances of getting to the super bowl in half. He's good at choosing players for a specific game plan and you can bet Az Hakim will have breakout year, there's no way he'll let all that speed go to waste. The Lions seem to be in a ditch at this point though, I'd say the Bengals have a far better chance at doing good next year if they get a solid coach, mooch would have been awesome for the bengals.

They haven't got a prayer in hell. As long as Brown owns the team they're toast. I'd have to question the mental apptitude of any coach that took that job while Brown owns the team.
The rest of the owners ought to demand he sell it to somebody who gives a shite.

Yeah, brown is a moron.

All I know is that Millen has been spotted walking hunched over and bow legged like he had been raped by a 500 lb. gorilla.

Who the heel are the Niners going to get now?

Whatever happened to Dennis Green? Weren't the 49ers interviewing him for the job? What became of that? Obviously not much I guess...

I heard rumors that Green was going to go to Detroit...which would have sucked for me, a Vikings fan, since Green knows the whole offense.

Didn't Green use to be the Quarterback Coach or Offensive Coordinator in San Fran a while ago?
