PHILADELPHIA ? Dick Jauron?s long-anticipated hiring to rejoin Coach Steve Mariucci as the Lions? defensive coordinator has become reality.
?We?ve agreed to terms to make Dick our new defensive coordinator,? Lions vice president Bill Keenist confirmed Sunday.
Jauron, 53, agreed on a three-year contract. A former Lions defensive back, he became the No. 1 candidate to run the Lions? defense when he was fired Dec. 29 after five seasons as head coach of the Chicago Bears.
Jauron?s contract reportedly will pay him an average of about $1 million a year, but some of that will be paid by the Bears. They owed him $2.2 million for the last year of his contract. The Lions will pay Jauron about $500,000 in 2004.
