have finally gotten dsl into my neighborhood and have a dedicated dsl line.

Although It has a wireless ability,
I have hardwired the modem to the uplink on my high speed hub and then out to each machines network card, so now have dsl through the hub on my windows xp machines.

Both of these machines duel boot one into ubuntu and one into fedora core3.
My question is how hard is it going to be to get linux to recognize this dsl modem.

this is the modem I have.

thx for any meaningful imput.

Does your hub do the actual dialing, and thus handle the PPP over Ethernet? If so, there should be no problem. Of course, I've never handled DSL myself, so you might want to wait for confirmation.

no, its actually a duel speed auto sensing 4 port hub made by netgear mod #DS104.

there is a router feature that comes with the modem if you use the wireless setup as opposed to the ethernet or usb interfaces.

there is no actual dialing takes place its connected on boot. although it did come with MSN premium, you are already on the net before you connect to them.

why would you use a hub and not a router

because thats what I have at the moment.
linking the modem through the hub instead of directly into the ethernet card allows me to share the connection with the other machine.
I have added kerio firewall on top of my other protection for added security for now.
