Linux vs Vista

The question in my mind about vista is will it be worth using over linux? Since I am not a gamer why should I use vista instead of x86_64 linux?

I wouldn't worry so much if one OS is worth using over another. Use what works for you. If you like Linux, and it does everything you need an OS to do, stick with that.

Or if you are like me and a lot of people here, and like to play with all kinds of technology, run them all 🙂

Vista is puting out supposed features and such and I have to wonder if any of them look top be better than FC 5 x86_64 linux. I am interested in seeing what microsoft has done on dealing with the linux OS competition.

The deciding factor that should be considered is that Linux 64bit is free, with all its software and capabilities.

With Vista, its another O/S for different folks and their needs. So should the two never meet.

Exactly. Vista will be here all patched and ready to go, and linux will have taken many different paths and iterations by then.

Indeed.
Windows will never be a better Linux than Linux, and Linux will never be a better Windows than Windows, use the one that suits you best.

if you are not a gamer, and do not need to use Autocad, Photoshop or Sage, then there is no reason for you to use Vista over Linux.

Actually they are planning on RTM of October '06 however it wont be in general availability until January.

The reason I said March is because:
1. It will actually be finished so you can compare it with something.
2. There will be some (although not very much) software specifically designed to run on it.

Right now it's not exactly mature code, it needs time.
