Linux videocapture and conversion tools

I'm re-examining why I'm using Windows and broke it down to two applications:

Games
Video capture and conversion

I can handle rebooting to run games (which doesn't occur to often), but I'm wondering about what video capture and conversion software there is that will run on Linux. I'm planning to (ditch this POS Creative Labs card and) get a WinTV model 401 anyways. I plan on working in MPEG1, MPEG2, and Divx formats (which I've been trying to do with my CL card for the last 6 months)

Everything else I do can be easily done on existing applications.

I'm not sure which one, but either Sonic Foundry (Vegas Video, Video Factory) or Main Concept have commercial Linux Video editors (incl. Capture).

I haven't started playing with video stuff in Linux yet, but I recall having seen something on one of those two sites.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

Good Luck, when you find something you like, please post it.

FWIW

I'm not really looking for any commercial level ones, mainly I'm doing this as a hobby and so I can send reletives cheap VCDs instead of VHS tapes.
