I was just searching through Red Hat's site(first time) and came upon their trainning courses. Although they are are hellishly expensive, what do you all think about them?

Could I get similar trainning or better/worse training from a community college or Comp school.

Linux is overwhelming tosay the least, and It'd be nice to have some structure.......GOD I sound like my parents....

I took a UNIX course in school. I sat in the back writing scripts and stuff that would fork off a million times, or repeat a million times "Shawn is gay" (and thanks to the banner command I found it amusing for a little while). RedHat's classes should be better than that. I was bored, so I found things to amuse myself. If the classes suck (like what you will find in most community colleges) you wont learn much. I learned a *LOT* getting a job with UNIX. Thats one of the quickest ways to learn things ;)

Some community colleges offer classes other than "for college credit". The school I go to offers such classes, they are short and expensive, but I hear that they are pretty good. BIGs= Bussiness, Industry, Government. That is what they are called at the school I go to. They are geared to the professional Sometime/mostimes employers will foot the bill.

the RHCE courses are very good compared to all other IT training centers .. and at the end you get the RHCE which ya certs are kind of meaningless .. but RHCE carries more "weight" than any other cert .. second to maybe ccie .. just my thoughts ..

Your inputounds intersting..

They are expensive as hell, but there would be nothing shabby about the certificate I guess...

How"by the book" do you think they are? I don't want to have things memorized. I want to be able to do them.

basically, I am thinking about taking them because Linux just opens so many doors that I want to make sure I cover all OS based topics in full...

later peeps

ya Linux+ is a Comptia cert, there is also the Sair cert ( linuxcertification.com ) and the LPI cert .. The RHCE will not be a memorization class. it prepares you for the exam .. The exam is a FULL-DAY HANDS ON .. so if you just memorize, and try to do the hands on troubleshooting .. don't be offended if the proctor laughs at you .. but if you get started using and read about linux and take the RHCE training courses, you WILL be prepared .. I hope this is helpful ..

Dude, forget the classes! They rape you with their prices! Just leave Windows alone for awhile, download RedHat, and read some books. I always felt I got A LOT more out of reading the books instead of going to classes and having the instructor spoon feed me the information. If you get some books and use the OS like you use Windows (install apps, install hardware, troubleshoot) you'll be a Linux guru in no time. ;)
