I am considering purchasing this laptop and was wondering if any of the components might give me issues in linux and how well they might or might not be supported ??

i checked the dri users mailing list and found a little bit of info about the radeon 7500 and was wondering if it is supported by dri would the radeon 7500 mobility also be supported ??

The almost-canonical page for this kind of info is Linux on Laptops. There's a lot more info collected there than you're likely to find around these parts. Run some Google searches on Linux and the laptop make/model, too - a lot of people put up personal pages with details about how they got their machine running.
 
also you can check with each distro and see if it's supported natively. you'll need more info for things like the modem/network card.

a good linux modem resource is linmodems.
