What should be configured in the 2.6 Kernel for support for the AMD 64 ?

And for the motherboard as well......... drivers?

I don't know what the specific configuration you want to look for in 2.6, but I beleive that the K8T800 and the accompaning southbridge is supported under linux.

Check out SuSE, they have full support for the AMD64 archatecture and have a free install thru ftp (you download 23meg install CD and point it at a ftp server to do the installation) sites for both the 64 and 32 bit versions. Right now Suse is the only Distro that has a free 64bit capable version of Linux aviable for end users. Other distros like Mandrake and Gentoo are also ones that may be worth checking out.

VIA says that they support Suse for these chipsets.

However keep in mind that for any cutting edge hardware your probably going to run into a couple issues here and there.

The good thing is that this chipset is used in server motherboards. Linux is a very common server platform nowadays and most intellegent hardware manufacturers go out of their way to make sure that Linux has good support for any server stuff. Here is what I base my reasoning about Via supporting linux
