Linux suggestions-short and sweet needed

Couls someone please just point me in the correct direction when it comes to picking the best desktop and browser---there are too many choices to be made. I just want to set this up as a desk top machine through my network. I'm off winblows for 2 wks and i want to make Linux work for me. I installed red hat 7.3 its installed wothout a hitch. I plan to get to the command line but I want to take advantage of the graphical goodies also. Is there a way to get the fonts larger on some of the web pages?? they seem to be smaller and harder to read and if increased in the appearance panel not all of them are increased. currently using mozilla any help appreciated. Mark😀

You are going to need a hell of a lot more than two weeks to learn Linux... Anyways, any suggestions you get will be subjective. I prefer Mozilla 1.0. As for X Desktops, I'm always changing them. Try to use as many different browsers and desktops as time will permit, so you can come to your own conclusion...

Window managers are one of those things that will change Linux's whole feel. First you should install KDE 3 and Gnome since they come with Redhat 7.3. I think WindowMaker also comes with Redhat. You should also check out Fluxbox (blackbox with some extra features), and Enlightenment. Right now I use KDE 3 just because I feel most productive with it. I will probably use Gnome 2 when the final version comes out. It is always good to have a couple web browsers installed. I usually have Galeon, Mozilla, and Konqueror installed. In order to install Galeon you have to install Mozilla. My favorite is Galeon, but the distro that I'm using right now (Suse) comes with an older version that doesn't have all of the mouse gesture options. I tried to install the latest version, but I ran into the endless dependency loop.

<Edit> Oh yea I forgot, make sure you have a text based browser installed. I like Links.
