Linux Sound Card. Please Advise

Hello.

I have C-Media's CMI8738 onboard sound chip. I am trying to run Red Hat 7.2. The sound card is detected, but I get no sound. If I use "sndconfig", it lists the card, but hangs at the part where it is suppose to play the test sample audio. Is there any way I can get this sound to work? If anyone had this problem, or know how, please help me.

thank you very much.

Not really sure why redhat is not using your sound card correctly. It maybe a driver issue, you could however try the alsa drivers for your card. They are typically very good. Your specific sound card is listed as supported on the alsa page. First your will have to have to compile the drivers, then remove your current sound card modules. Finally, insert the new alsa modules. PM if you need more help.
