I want to build a linux server on my old machine. It is at present being used as proxy server (win XP) for sharing Cable connection. I have never used Linux before. Please let me know where I can download it from and the installtion process etc. Please let me know a place where I can get some information about all thse.

Well let me rephrase that. what i meant was i already have a box. olde Dell PIII. I want to install Linux on it to use it as a server. so I need some information regarding that.

well tell you what this is what you should, get an old hd maybe around 3-5 gigs big. Take out the hd that you currently have and exchange it with this new one. now burn mandrake 8.2 on to 3 cds, put the first on in and install linux. Now you have linux on a computer that if configured properly can be a server. once you get through the install (the easy part) you get to configure your services (the hard part).
