Hi, just a quick post to say I got this thing working.
Was reading last night and discovered winxp home is unique from all other windows OS (from win95 on) in that It cannot log on to a NT Domain.
Evidently this is by design so people who want to do server type things will have to buy the more expensive xp pro.
So got to thinking ok I can't make xp home log onto fedora's domain lets try making fedora log onto xp homes domain.
Near as I could figure the groupname and the domain name in xp were the same thing.
So changed my netbios name in Fedora to be identical to my workgroup name.
restarted and sure enough there were the windows shares. At this point could still not see linux from windows but could ping it now. So figured last step had to be in smb.conf somewhere.
tried changing several perameters with no luck then finally tried swapping the default %S withmyusername . restarted and the other side lit up.
wahoo!
