I ahve a fresh install of RedHat 7.1 and I would like to update the kernel. The kernel is 2.4.2. Is there any reason to update the Xfree drivers, I have a regular old TNT2 card.
Also I need a heck of a lot of help with setting my machine up as a SAMBA server. I have the newest version of SAMBA installed. But my machine is still called "localhost". How/where do I change that. I am running Ximian Gnome 1.4.
Another question is what is the CLI command in the terminal to find out the IP address of my box.

Thanks

Always update your kernel. Update to the latest (2.4.5?). Mostly bug fixes and security holes are patched in the numbers on the far right. I dont know about X, but probably not. Check out SAMBA's page. Also Orielly (sp?) has a book out on SAMBA.

Also read the RH documentation for compiling a kernel. RH shipped a devel version of gcc with 7.0 (its almost certainly still there with 7.1) anyway, to compile a kernel under RH 7.x requires kgcc (basically just an older version of gcc).
