Linux recommendation for Laptop?

Some people have put up pretty detailed experiances and describe the steps they had to go thru to get things working.

Try the Knoppix Linux. You can run it from your cd-rom to see if it will load all the drivers. I run that with several dell laptops and didn't have any problem at all. I never install it though, just boot it from the CD.

True. Except that I do a HD install if I see that things work okay.

Which Dell laptop are you looking at???

p.s: PclinuxOS ( knoppix- like, but based on Mandrake) might be a good option too.
