Linux Question?

I was just wondering what kind of hardware are you all running in your Linux box. I had read the best chipset for Linux is the VIA chipset. I want to run a Linux box but I'm stumped on what kind of hardware is compatible and stable with a Linux distro. I was thinking of running Gentoo. I surely would appreciate any feedback on this.

This is probably the wrong forum, since it's more OS related.

I've used it with VIA, Intel, AMD, and Serverworks chipsets. I've used ATI, Intel, nVidia, and Matrox video. I've used Intel, VIA, and AMD processors. I've used Intel, realtek, and linksys ethernet cards, and linksys and netgear wireless cards (prism chipsets).

nVidia does not properly support FOSS, so nVidia chipsets can be a PITA. Their network cards are total trash, so don't even bother.
