I have a Dell notebook with Suse 8.2 on it. The display has a native resolution of 1024*768.

I often connect it to several 19" crts which all have about the same specs. I would like to run those crt's at 1280*960 or 1400*1050 at 85 Hz then.

What do i have to modify or do to change the resolution in a fast manner, when temporarily connected to those crt's?

SaX should handle that for you. BTW, did you buy 8.2 or did you find a d/l location for it?

I copied the dvds at the place where i am working.

Yeah, i know about SAX, but isn't there an easier way? I heard something about pressing ALT- + and ALT- - for changing resolutions...

I just told Mandrake 9.1 that I had a larger monitor than I actually do... think I told it 1280x1024@75 Hz... then I set the resolution to 1024@768 and the refresh rate defaulted to 85 Hz. If I chose a 1024x768 monitor, it kept wanting to set the refresh rate at 60 hz... and that's a little hard on the eyes.

The modeline in /etc/X11/XF86config(-4).

BTW, how did you come across 8.2? D/L or purchase?
