ok, so here's wut happened. i tried 2 update my directx to directx 8.1, but it was a WE (Windows Executable) file. i tried 2 edit it from a WE file to one dat linux could access. apparently dis didnt work an now all da things on my desktop r WE files. how should i fix it if re-installing linux isnt da only way?
 
You edited a directx binary by hand, and ran it on linux?

I think what we have here, is a fundamental misunderstanding.
