Linux people what is this error

crc mismatch len=17408 0x7691a7a5 0x5cd88e27

I have a tivo that I hacked using a guide by the way. I am a linux noob hence the question. The program is called tyserver that runs on my tivo and transfers files to my computer. I get this error but the program runs and seems to work but I am having some problem with the encoding. I suspect the file transfer for the problem. I have replaced the files a couple of times and chmod 777 them. This ran a couple of days ago no problems.

I know it is hard to give me a truly complete answer since this is an out of the ordinary use. But if you can give me an idea of what this error is could be helpful to me.

Thanks

I don't know exactly what that means. But is CRC is a error correction mechanism (Cyclic Redundancy Check) used in electronic circuits. here

Sometimes it means that a you have a bad sector on a harddrive or a bad peice of hardware or something. A common error with HD's invlove CRC errors involve a bad IDE cable and is causing problems with the ultraATA data transfers. Common solution is to turn off DMA access or get a better IDE cable.

For this case I don't know. Could be a bad sector, or a bad cable, or anything with any error checking such as a simple partially-corrupted file were the information mis-matches stuff in the header of the file. I have no clue if it is serious or not, or even if you have to worry about it.

Is there a forum specificly for hacked TIVO users anywere? Maybe if you can talk to them and get a better answer.

Thanks for the link drag. That helps a lot. As a matter of fact I have a sneaky suspicion that it may be the drive. I bought a maxtor 120 for my computer back in may and it went bad within 2 months. I put the same model drive in my tivo. I am going to pull it and do a backup tonight and run maxtor utilities on it while I am at it.

I noticed last night that the tivo web interface had apparently had quit or something because I couldn't connect from my computer. I just rebooted it and all seemed well. I am definately going to check it out especially since I haven't backed it up since I hacked it. I hate to have to do it all over again. Especially since I am really green in linux. I must say it is getting easier. I bought the tivo a month ago at the CC deal that came around. I hacked it once then they sent out a software upgrade and messed it up. So I had to do it again.

To answer your question there is a forum for tivo hackers. A couple of them actually that I have found. I just found that it takes a while to get any answers. I thought I would post here for a quick answer. I know there are a lot of linux users here.

Again Thanks.

Oh just in case you are interested here are the links. Tivo community and deal discussion forums
